Yesterday was my second appointment with my new T and my first time crying in therapy in 40 years! The very first time I cried happened during a nervous breakdown seeing my first therapist 40 years ago. Since then I've never cried during therapy. And then there was an abusive T and that further shut me down.
I know it has to do with being comfortable with a T. I feel comfortable with this new T. I knew it was a good fit from the first time we spoke on the telephone to arrange an intake appointment. By the second telephone conversation, I knew this T was the one.
My T is a trauma specialist. She already helped me immensely yesterday. Wish I had known about trauma specialists years ago.
Yesterday my T suggested that there be an appointment to include my husband so he can learn coping techniques for when things go awry. And they do. Usually hubby handles it with humor which works best for me. Sometimes though that doesn't work. My T has had 25 years experience working with vets and their families and abuse survivors.
She said meeting my husband would be good as well because it would give her insight into me from another person's point of view.
