This is a question for all sufferers really but... do you sometimes feel like it's too late to apologise, even if the opportunity is there and so subsequently keep it to yourself until it perhaps really is too late?

Oh yeah. Lost contact with one of my best friends for two years because I didn't return his calls for a week & then couldn't work out how to call him without dying of shame. Bumped into him on the street and we had lunch & sorted it all out.

That is one of the things that is bothering me now. The shame and embarrassment possibly felt by the sufferers that keep them away further. I just want to say, "it's ok! I'm here!" But cant.

That is one of the things that swirls around in my head, my ex can be quite stubborn and convince herself of things like "I aren't bothered any more" etc and I worry that a lot of reconciliation has been avoided as a result.

@TheMinsterman Its never too late to apologize unless you can't actually find the person. Just say it and mean it. Its up to the the other person/people what they do with that apology.

Though we with ptsd can also apologize or take on much blame. Frequently warranted, sometimes proportionally not always entirely.

I think sometimes people view apologies as an admission of guilt or an acceptance of blame. Its not the same thing at all.

I do personally see @Deadman apologizing as feeling badly and recognizing something I did wrong by ommission or commission or thoughtlessness or nature etc, and it thus being my responsibilty. JMHO.

Why apologize if I don't feel badly, or don't want to take responsibilty?

If you don't feel the needed to apologize for anything nobody here is trying to make you do it.

Oh my goodness, no @Deadman I think I've been misunderstood, and in fact will apologize to you if you felt offence. I did not mean to give the impression 'my' words are attributable to you. And I found your opening post beautiful and totally relatable.

I meant I (myself only) do (myself) assume guilt and onus when I apologize.

100% quite the opposite. I'll never make up for what I've done, and my apologies are not only necessary but woefully too little.

I'm sorry the meaning you read in to my post angered you. As I said, it was not the intention of what I meant. I meant, and suppose it was poorly worded : " I, personally, do not know how, to apologize without assuming self-blame/ recriminations?, and could you explain what 'you' meant? :confused: "
