Quite honestly, IMHO, it would be wrong to try and defend your countries actions. The issue with people though is that they shouldn't make it about American citizens or soldiers, as that is not who is at fault... but more the American political level.

Here's an interesting one for you guy's, would like your thoughts on it, I was part of the South African Defense Force under the Apartheid government I served under their national service(compulsory). I was part of the evil machine and if you've read my intro more than that. Does that make me as bad as the Taliban??????????

Not sure I don't study to many past event. I never got into a scrap with the taliban I fought somalians. I guess it boils down to do you think you are as bad as the taliban. I am an american and I know that the taliban attaked the US and regaurdless of what the US government did prior that makes them an enemy just like we are enemies to them. I don't know what happened during your service but generally there is someone above most soldiers so if you did your job you are just a shmuck like the rest of us. I guess only you can answer that question just set up a group of questions and answer for yourself and guess for the taliban and see if you are as bad as they are. If you are that would be your ghost to deal with. Trying to control a country and keep control I would say is a bit differant than going to others and killing inosent people with bombs. Take the civil war when it ended the union went around and burned all the books in the south burned the plantations killed anyone that did not agree. So back to you I have been to africa and seen what some military forces do especially foriegn like India, Bangledash, and so on and watched what rival clans or tribes do to each other what you would not do to the lowest dog. The raping, stomping and beating people to death so if you are like that then yes you are the same in my book but if you were serving your government and fighting not perfoming hate crimes then no you are not like the taliban you were doing your job no mater what that entailed. You got the short end of the stick. I look at it this waywhat did the US solve in somolia basically nothing so was I a terrorist or was I following orders. That was a rough bit you went through but at least no matter what your job you are now part of history maybe not by name but still part. LOL I think of terrorist as being fanatical people that choose to do destruction to anybody that is in the way even thier own people. The ones flying the planes into the towers had every chance to back out but they ended thier own lives and a lot more this is the mindset of finatics. I hated somolians for a long time after being there and what happened but I didn't want to commit suicide and kill civilians to get even. Soldiers may have to do some horrible shit but as long as they are doing thier job and following orders I think you are free of the terrorist. TEX

You know, being an aussie, we could go back to WWI and WWII and even Vietnam. I know some old folks here that still do not trust Germans, the Japanese, or the Vietnamese. However, Australia is a huge multi-cultural country, and now he is the one who is alienated. Al Qieda or the Taliban are the current enemy of most non-extremists and anyone who does not believe in them. They do not discriminate, they even blow up people in their own country. f*ck I wish I did not get started on this. f*ck I wish I did not go over there.
So, nomedic, you are not one of them or a terrorist. You are a medic aren't you. You save lives, not take them.
