I like fairness...... I think its what civilization is all about.

I don't think it is fair for a child to be recruited by extremist jackasses and told to fight for Allah. They don't know any better. They have no chance, they have no choice.

As for killing or targeting civilians....welcome to total war. We've been targeting civilian populations for many many years. Carpet bombing, fire bombing, and the ultimate, the Nuke. For the specific intent of causing mass destruction and death of civilians in order to demoralise the other side.

As for killing own people. I think the UCMJ covers cowardice and desertion nicely on that. Not sure if you still get shot, but in the last 50 years, people have. In the 80's they threw a guy in jail for 2 years just because he refused to sign up for selective service. The west is rife with double standards.

And I am in no way defending Taliban and Al Queda or any of their ilk. I'm just talking about individuals unlucky enough to be born in the wrong place.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions. But that's out there. They are the current enemy of the US, Australia, The UK, NZ, Canada and a lot more. They are not welcome here. Do you think it funny, have you lost anyone to the war on terror. I have, so pull your head in dude

Yes I have!!! Twin towers, and a friend in the Army. Look 10 years into the future. I'm Done

Wagon over and out.

hhhmmm... okay, I am going to add a bit here that kind of goes down one path and goes down the other. I can see it from both sides. I was lucky enough to experience war on my street. (The joke was, we've recaptured the lounge, but there is still fighting in the kitchen) and there is a half truth in that. When we were on our chinstraps and when nobody was coming to help us (no oil... no interest), the only real international fighters we got were Mujhadeen. Not so much near my trench, but they were there. And we all did some bad stuff. And we didn't have much in the way of uniforms. And we weren't trained. And we didn't have any proper command or rules of engagement cards. Am I a terrorist? No of course not.

The UN had all the training, all the rules of engagement cards, tanks and uniforms. The Americans arrived after the fighting stopped, the French built a big bunker and sat in it and the Dutch watched our neighbours commit the biggest act of genocide in one location since Hitler. The Muj? They got stuck in on our behalf. Barbaric if you are on the outside looking in, but as Wagon says targeting non combatats etc is the norm now, and genocide does get your back up.

Now, on the other side of the coin, where do you draw the line. When does plucky militia or territorial become resistance, become terrorist. For me, the Taliban are a crackpot medieval pain in the arse organisation propped up by the USA when it was engaged in killing Soviets (my other half had a cousin killed back in that war), and is now killing Americans, their own people, Brits, Poles, Germans etc etc. And of course we don't need to go over there as they are quite happy to come to us and spread the message as it were. I have no idea at all what the war over there is like, so I am not going to give a view on it, just that having a go at tanks with no uniform but a big f*ck off RPG in your hand is one thing. Getting onto a train shouting Allahu Ekber and pulling the rip cord on a chest rig is another. You choose option B, well stand by for a f*ck off chit.
