I like fairness...... I think its what civilization is all about.
I don't think it is fair for a child to be recruited by extremist jackasses and told to fight for Allah. They don't know any better.They have no chance, they have no choice.
As for killing or targeting civilians....welcome to total war. We've been targeting civilian populations for many many years. Carpet bombing, fire bombing, and the ultimate, the Nuke. For the specific intent of causing mass destruction and death of civilians in order to demoralise the other side.
As for killing own people. I think the UCMJ covers cowardice and desertion nicely on that. Not sure if you still get shot, but in the last 50 years, people have. In the 80's they threw a guy in jail for 2 years just because he refused to sign up for selective service. The west is rife with double standards.
And I am in no way defending Taliban and Al Queda or any of their ilk. I'm just talking about individuals unlucky enough to be born in the wrong place.
