Hi G,
I would never dream of dropping any friend of mine just because they are in trouble, that to me isn't friendship. But then I guess that is me. I was talking to a friend of mine last night who felt helpless this week because he didn't know what he could do for me and he wanted so much to help because when I met him he was depressed and suicidal as his partner of 13 years had died and he HIV+, actually diagnosed with AIDS and he was at the end of the road. I did my best to help him and seeing him getting a spark in his eyes again in itself was incredible. And now he was telling me that he is starting his PHD next year. I am just so amazed and proud of my friend because I know where he was.
Having said that, I guess it takes a certain kind of person and not everyone can or is willing to help and nurture their friends.
If you need, you have a new friend here (but beware this one does tend to talk a bit!)
Thanks & take care.
