Opigu

This is somewhat unrelated to PTSD but.....

I've always done well in school and on standardized tests. I consistently am in the 93rd percentile & up on any test I've taken. I have not had my IQ tested yet, but hope to some day.

I'm able to take in huge amounts of information and make sense of it, categorizing it in my head. I do very well with words, English, writing, speaking, seeing relationships between words, linguistics, etc. I am adept at word problems, logic, geometry, and physics; verbal reasoning is definitely more my area than mathematical.

I see things differently than most people do. When professors speak of processes, I'm usually able to fast forward their explanation and see down the line. I always organize things strategically, often seeing what will happen if action A, B, C, D are done, and then even if A is done followed by E2 versus F7, etc.

However, I haven't found any job, university program, or anyone who knows where or what my brain can be used for. I am also autistic, so I have special needs, and I feel incredibly stupid around neuro-typical people.

I feel like I am a genius, albeit a bottom of the pile genius, and I just want to be able to do something with this. I don't know if anyone will even have any ideas, but this has been bothering me so much for so long that I just wanted to post this.

I think the problem lies in that you want someone to tell you what your brain may be best used for, but that's not how things really work. Wait, unless you in China, right? They match up the best people with the best jobs.....at least I know they do this in sports! Anyway, its more a matter of finding out what YOU want to do. Nobody else is going to tell you what to do. (Oh, the joys of being an adult....)

is it really that important to now your iq ? intelligence can be defined in so many ways, ive seen geniuses who were amazingly brilliant but could barely tie their shoelaces , and others who could not hold a conversation. To find out the best way to use your intelligence is really quite simple...find something you love doing and always have - if that do-sent work identify what you can do intelligently and go from there. I can assure you that being defined a genius will bring no special accolades or gifts , just the knowledge that your smart. It will not behold you with any special insight or any wonderful new talents - i would suggest you find a mentor and explore your options and at the same time explore things from a simple perspective.

I know my IQ. it's in the top 99% Knowing my IQ doesn't help anything. It's not put down on job applications or etc.

But, what does matter is what you do with the brain you have. Keep experimenting and searching for the right field of study to apply your brain and you will do great in life.

Look up the scholar's electives programme at western university :) I'm top 4 percentile (or at least I was), so I get what you're talking about.I also felt it made my ptsd worse in that when majorly triggered I was aware that my brain wasn't the brain I used to have or had expected to rely on

Do what interests you. And if you aren't sure, start experimenting.

You'll find profoundly-gifted / genius level people in all fields. In subjects that utilize their intellect, as well as in ones that let them escape it, or that don't use it at all. On purpose. You'll also find all three on accident. Meaning that's where they wound up, not where they wanted to be.

None of us have a right to our best place. That's a series of decisions we have to make for ourselves, and then both fight for & have a little bit of luck to carry us.

If you need some help brainstorming... I could probably list off about 100 different occupations for each of those areas of affinity. But it would hardly be a complete list.

Certain things to consider when looking at an ideal-job / what do I want to be when I grow up? (And my life has taken some 180 degree turns, so I've had to ask that question of myself many times)

- Where do I want to live? Is location important to me? If so, how?
- What station do I want to hold? (Think class structure, and respectability, rather than income)
- What's my minimum income level I could be happy with? Could deal with? (2 different qs) & for how long? (A lot of people are fine making next to nothing for a decade or two, knowing that there will be a large return... Eventually. Medicine is a good example. 15 years paying to learn/work, and then 5 years paying off loans, is a good 20+ years before they'll be comfortable.).
- What sort of activity level do I need in my entire day / does my work day need to reflect that or can it be gotten outside of work?
- What kinds of people do I wish to associate with?
- What's my ideal work structure in regard to others? (for & by myself, by myself in a small-large organization, with a partner, with a team, directly under 1 person, etc.)
- What's my ideal work structure in regard to time? (8-6 M-F? 24/7 for large blocks of time? 24 on 24 off? Seasonal? Days? Nights? Part time?)
- Do I want to work inside my passions, or keep those private (amateur or hobby)

Also not a complete list... But a good starting point.
