Getting Off Lorazepam (in The Uk)

Hello

My GF is a longtime PTSD sufferer, caused by a child rape and exacerbated by incompetent care. Please note that the motherland is a drug supermarket, you can get almost everything over the corner and the doctors usually prescribe everything just to send you away.

I brought my GF to the local General Practitioner to talk about some health issues. She has been issued Lorazepam drops in the motherland, taking it for five years to fight insomnia. When the GP heard this he nearly flew into a rage, saying the doctor who prescribed that was a criminal. He firmly refused to issue a prescription for Lorazepam and advised my GF to scale down and quit immediately. He gave her a prescription for Nytol to aid her in falling asleep. He said that, while the dose was very low, taking Lorazepam for such a long time is dangerous (addiction, loss of lucidity). She's able to work and function normally, but she suffers from insomnia.

She agreed with the prescription and she's taking half doses. She told me that she's already feeling more energetic and aware during the day and that she intends to quit.

Can anyone offer some advice about getting off Lorazepam? She really wants to quit.

Hi Heaven, I have also been on Lorazepam for a long time. My advise would be that she slowly wean herself off the Lorazepam if she has some left. I have been in a situation where I have run out of it and the withdrawl is not pretty. Weaning off is the best way, if possible.

What the hell, she's not listening to me and she wants to quit cold turkey! Yesterday night she went to bed without taking it, only with a couple of Nytol as support. She just told me that she slept well and soundly, only waking up sometimes during the night and feeling really great this morning. Niki, what can you tell me about the withdrawal process?

I find that about the second day without is when I start to withdraw. I get 'brain zaps' (hard to explain)...light is too much to handle...need to shield my eyes from light. Also, it feels like thoughts in my head are just screaming at me. UGH!!

I'm not surprised that the first night was ok because she still has some in her system. Although, she could be completely different then me and she will have an easier time getting off of it. The second day for me is when it starts.

I believe it is also dangerous to quit cold turkey if she has been taking it for a long time.

Cold turkey isn't advisable.

She likely hasn't hit full withdrawal yet. When (if) she does, she'll likely decide that it was an incredibly stupid move and go the taper route.

What the hell, women from the motherland are as beautiful as stubborn, and she's quite beautiful. I will keep an eye on her.
