Going To Court To Lose My Kids Over My Ptsd

Thank you everyone for the kind words and great advice. I will gather my VA records showing I have never missed a appointment for not only my PTSD and TBI neurologist but any appointments. Getting letters on my character is hard to gather because I have 1 friend that I see about every other month. I have started looking into attorneys but seeing that a lot go for 200-400$ a hour tends to discourage me and the a retainer for upfront. I will not give up and I will find a way.

I did a quick search, found many attorneys in the family court that work for a sliding scale. You'd have to dig around a bit to find one worth his salt, but they are out there.

You may also want to inquire with the VA, see if they offer assistance with that sort of thing. (Civilian here. Don't know much about the VA)

Ring some lawyers and ask them about pro bono for combat vets. This means basically that they do it for free out of the goodness of their hearts. I know most people think we are all sharks, but you may come across a lawyer who comes from a service family and is willing to help you. Remember - you may be too proud to beg for yourself but you can beg for your kids. Play up your service and what you have given for your country. I know vets hate to do this, but tug on the heartstrings and you may find a lawyer who will help for free or for a reduced rate.

@Sighs That is a good idea. Might even find one who's worked a case like this before.

@Steven11B Just so you know as well, you are not the first person to be in this situation. Sadly, you most likely won't be the last. Just know your not alone with this, lots of people out there want to help you. You just have to find them.
