I told my story and that I was looking for support group in my area and tried to include the links in this but it would not allow me to include the links. Anyway if you want to read a couple other posts I wrote just search for "fattyz". : ) I need a support group or like a trauma friend or some one to speak with between therapy sessions? I was googling "trauma sponsor" sponsor being an AA term, when I found this board. I don't know. I was interested in a support group also. I have no idea how anything like that would work. I believe in group its just that AA really does nothing for me. I got sober I don't mean that. If you are involved in drugs and drinking and you can't stop AA is the place to go.
I believe now most of the people in AA are trauma/PTSD survivors and don't realize it because no one ever explained it to them. The group is helpful but they all talk around trauma but rarely about trauma. It was funny I was at a discussion meeting this week and they really got around to talking about trauma and sex abuse near the end of the meeting and you could just feel the level of emotion in the room going through the roof. I think most of the splinter groups that formed in AA are the result of people searching for help for the root cause of the substance abuse which is probably about 95% trauma/PTSD related. (ACOA, BBSS, AWOL etc.)
If anyone else is thinking along these lines, need someone to talk to, want to find/start a group etc. respond or PM me.
Thanks
FattyZ
PS do you have to "buy an upgrade" to PM someone on this board?
Thanks again
