Had a pap test (almost)

My trauma is due to sexual abuse and I had issues for years around allowing anyone to see me naked unless I really wanted them to, which meant doctors were out.

Yesterday I went in for a pap test and my mind was totally on board. I was able to go through the process without retraumatizing myself or something similar, but it was VERY painful.

The speculum was made of plastic and too large for me. The doctor tried twice, but I couldn’t bear it. So I never had the pap test, but I got through the worst of it and I am very proud of myself for that.

That's awesome! My last one I shook and cried through. The doctor was great. She talked to me and let me listen to music through it. I don't know if I could have done it with a man at all.

Way to go. That is huge accomplishment. Very proud of you. Write this down somewhere where you can remind yourself when needed about how much you have overcome.

Actually had the pap text today! I didn't realize it had been so long until I looked for this post. The doctor found a smaller speculum and it was uncomfortable, but I got through it without crying and Canada recommends them only every 3 years so I shouldn’t have to go back for a long while now ?
