OMG..Freaking Out...Abnormal Pap Test

Hi Pandora,

My daughter and I have been through this also and I hate the gynae stuff too even though I am a midwife.

The colposcope is just a microscope which they look through to see any highlighted abnormal cell. If there are any they will usually take a biopsy. It is very similar to a PAP test.

I ended up with a hysterectomy however usually they find the abnormal cells early and you just have regular follow up.

I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. I haven't experienced it myself, but know of many who have and everything turned out ok. I hope for the same for you. Stay strong :Hug_emoticon:

From what I have read it is normal to get abnormal cells and that usually the body expels them after a few months with no complications. Hopefully that is the case for you.

Deep breathing and dissociation will get you through the exam nicely! When you lay up on the table straight away just deep breath and think about only that. Leave the room behind and give your everything to breathing. It will be over with before you know it.

Thinking of you Pandora.

The good thing is you were smart enough to have the test as I know a friend in her mid 20's who has just had a hysterectomy and now undergoing Chemo due to always putting the test off.

While what may lay ahead is scary, and understandable, the silver lining is they found it before it was anything worse.

After reading everyones stories and talking to some others I am not as worried about this and will deal with it if and when it becomes an issue. I do not know if this is just because I know something is wrong or just because I am having a symptom filled day but I have a lot of cramping and have needed a heating pad all day. I hope it goes away soon.
