Undiagnosed Has Bullying Caused Me To Suffer Ptsd?

Hi, I'm new here. I'm 20 years old (turning 21 next month) and I found this forum through google.

As you can see on my thread prefix I'm undiagnosed, but I'm convinced I have ptsd as a result of bullying in school. My main symptoms are nightmares and flashbacks. As a result I avoid the school district in town, resulting in me spending most of my time indoors or taking long detours around the town if I want to get to the shops. I'm currently preparing to move abroad.

I'm not exactly sure what else to write here... I think it would be useful to tell you that English is not my first language and I've got Asperger's syndrome (meaning that I tend to take things literally), so there might be some misunderstandings along the way. However, I'll try to remain calm about it (feel free to tell me to go do something else and come back later if I don't) and clarify myself/ask for clarifications.

Hey! Welcome :) I'm also new! I'm SO sorry to hear you've been bullied! I've been bullied, too- as well as emotionally abused- and it doesn't feel good, so I know how you feel! My first love also has Asperger's- we're no longer together, though :(

Anyways, I hope you find this forum helpful! Good luck and be well :)

Welcome, sorry to hear about you being bullied. My son is being bullied in school right now and its bad. Hes only in 3rd grade and some of the things these children are saying to him I would love to know where they are learning it as I didn't learn about that stuff till much later.

I think you should go talk to a doctor to get diagnosed. It may help get things under control with medication as well as therapy.

Where are you going to study abroad at? Good luck with that I hope you like it.

Hope you enjoy this site.

Hi PurpleSurvivor

You seem to be self aware you have a problem from your adversity. Going to a Dr is the best advice as Jlso111187 recommended. I can't begin to tell you how many people I personally know think a web search engine is the meaning of life:p

Thanks for the replies. It seems I made the right decesion when I registered.

It's Krakow I'm planing to spend my life in. My dream is to work as a guide there. Moving there comes first, after that I can think of getting diagnosed. The waiting times where I live are so long that there wouldn't be much of a point for me to wait, especially as I'm doing much better whenever I'm not in this town.

I tried getting help for what turned out being ptsd in school (after the years I was bullied), but I seem to have had bad luck with who I was talking to. The only decent counselor was the one who helped me get diagnosed with Asperger's, but she moved. The year after that I had flashbacks triggered at a school event and went to the new counselor complaining about flashbacks, nigthmares and having a hard time remembering everything that had happened. She didn't even mention ptsd.

So you have been diagnosed?

Sometimes its hard to find a counselor that fits with you. I have gone through 4 and quit because none of them worked well for me. But I have been thinking about going back.

I hope you like your new town. I understand you really want to move but ptsd is not a good thing to wait for to see a doctor. Could you go to your regular doctor and talk to them maybe they can get help faster or put you on something that helps with the anxiety and nightmares/flashbacks.

Yes, you can certainly have PTSD from bullying. I experienced bullying as well, and know how traumatic it can be. Some people think that bullying can't create PTSD- but they are wrong. Bullying- defined as emotional abuse- is actually extremely traumatic. Some of my most traumatic experiences are a result of the emotional abuse inflicted by my tormenters. The only thing that was worse and is harder to forgive is the adults that saw it happen and did nothing about it.
