Thanks for your replies! It's relieving to hear that I'm not alone in this, and also to hear that exposure doesn't necessarily have to be this overwhelming. Like in
@StellaBlue 's case, I'm 100 % sure my T meant it well, but that's not necessarily synonymous with helpfulness, i guess. I'm glad to hear a lot of you have found good and sensitive trauma therapists! Hopefully I'll find a good match myself someday. It just sucks that there's no online info about different psychologists (at least in Norway), so I just have to call around at random leaving messages (and i hate phone calls!). Did you guys find your therapists yourself or how did you end up with the ones you have now?
@GWhizz My doctor has told my that they can't refer me to a new psychologist while being in treatment, but I'm guessing some psychologists might accept putting me on a wait list if I just explain the situation to them. Noone has responded to my calls so far, so I've just been leaving awkward messages on their answering machine...
Most often the wait-list is 6-12 months, so I know I'm not going to do anything drastic and quit therapy right away, but maybe I'll tell my T I want to focus on the present like you said
@SheilaKathy, or to continue working on some relational issues without discussing the traumas directly. I'm also in the process of applying for financial aid at the moment, so I need a psychologist to have a good dialogue with my doctor, and hopefully my current T can help me with this.
