My son has been going to Dr. Spiegel for Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy and it has honestly been the best thing for his PTSD and TBI. It wasn't covered by the VA, so that was a downside, but Dr. Spiegel got us in touch with the nonprofit Healing Heroes to cover it, so that was an upside. I don't think HBOT is a traditional therapy for PTSD and TBI, but I've seen such an improvement in my son, so I'd recommend it.

Hi BellaCat,

To relieve some of your own uncertainties about this treatment, its actually aimed at TBI + PTSD, which your son fits. Its the TBI that causes blood flow restrictions within the brain, which HBOT shows evidence of temporarily improving.

As TBI and PTSD have near identical symptoms, it is theorised that if TBI can be corrected from the majority, then in fact it would be found that PTSD would actually no longer be present, which does seem to be quite accurate. There is a minority who have proven to have TBI and PTSD... and militaries worldwide are quite within unknown territory with TBI and adding a PTSD diagnosis, due to there symptom similarities.

So far... good temporary results for TBI sufferers from HBOT, and as theorised, PTSD is removed from the table once TBI is treated in the majority of cases. Very hard to treat TBI though... which is why it has a mild success rate.

Basically, when TBI is present, whilst PTSD could be applied, the argument is whether it should be applied due to the sheer similarities in symptoms.

Just for another input. I have only ptsd without tbi, but I do have cognitive and neurological problems because of the ptsd. I did 58 hbot sessions without any change, not in the ptsd, and anxiety and not in the cognitive aria. Although I saw people it helped them, (TBI ).

Do you have TBI or PTSD? This treatment only treats TBI, which symptoms directly overlap with PTSD, hence a diagnosis of both can be extremely confusing as a person thinks their PTSD has gotten better, when in fact they never had PTSD, they simply had the normal symptoms associated with TBI which mimic PTSD, thus they got improvement from their TBI injury using HBOT.

Like I said before, I did 58 hbot 2.0 treatments. Had no improvement not for PTSD nor for memory problems. (I do have PTSD). But to be correct, I know some person personally that hbot changes his life.

For PTSD, I think it is not helpful.

What changes did that person gain? I'm also looking for overall health. Improve my overall well being and help with healing of some issues that have come from PTSD.
