Heard of C-PTSD?

Hee hee I really don't want to go to the doc and be told told after a scan I really lost my mind (no matter what volume or percentage of what!)

And Evie, that is the point all those damn lables. We see here first hand we all get jacked the same on the mental and emotional level. Why add more confusion to the memory deprived???

NA, very normal for us to hope they are closer at knowing something and us getting better, but so far the only thing that has made a difference is listening to Anthony about how he healed and him light the way for me. Was my choice to try this. Surprise to me it is working :) It hurts like a mother but I have learned there is no up, under, or around. I still have a lot of shit to sort but I am a hell of a lot better than the day I got here, even though several of those days I fell flat on my face.

Depending on where you go Evie, who you speak with, will depend on the lables they can come up with for the one thing "PTSD", hence why I prefer it just be called PTSD around here, to save the BS confusion from people, so we can just get on with the business of support and healing, without all the nonsense.

I don't believe they will get a clear method of labelling from MRI, and Evie pointed that out, as their are indifferences to all trauma types, and some are more severe than others, but once the chemical imbalance takes effect, its really here nor there difference wise. You can poke straws at parts of the brain to find differences, yes.. but once again, they have no conclusive evidence to show for an MRI determining the actual type of trauma endured, because there are always indifferent scans for the same type of trauma which throw out the proof.

Oh and I forgot to add, my psychiatrist also said that he has had some patients in whom the PTSD does not show up on the brain scan or MRI. But he still believes these people have PTSD. So go figure. I don't think the doctors really know.

Ugh stupid labels, took me awhile to get those myself when I first came on here.. I had "complex" and "severe" and they tried nailing me with "depression" but as I learned more from the forum.. I just go by simple ol PTSD, cause that is all that matters. What really pisses me off is continullay hearing that they don't understand how I've functioned so well, and since I did before they think I should now too. I've heard numerous times that I shouldn't be alive and that I'm unique.. I really don't want to be alienated anymore than I already am thanks..

Most docs and therapists are complete idiots...

whoa bec... now I'm paranoid... I'm not the only nut an MD has said, "I'm surprised you are still with us?"
I feel so less special...

At first when it was said to me, I shrugged it off. Since then I know at least five other people were hit in the same area I was during the years that I still paid attention to it, and four of them died within days. Surprised at survival. I do not think that sort of thing is hyperbole from medics, surgeons, neurologists, etc.

I get that too. It makes me angry. People can't understand how you grew up in such a neglectful and abusive environment. I didn't know that's what it was until I was told. I felt pretty normal until then. You spend years just getting on with it and then all of a sudden people are treating you like your either mad or really fragile.

This is really going to turn into a rant, so I'm going to cool off!

Err I just read about a new "label" I hadn't heard of before... "Uncomplicated PTSD". Apparently that's where you have PTSD from a single incident (like me) and show all the classic symptoms but have no comorbid conditions.

I don't see the point of picking us all apart and categorizing us... like what good does it do except complicate matters and make the psychologists and psychiatrists think they're so much smarter than everyone else??

But aren't the "comorbid" symptoms you are labled with actually normal expected symptoms of PTSD? Like depression, OCD, PD, agoraphobia... And so on. Those are considered comorbid but are actually pretty normal regular afflictions of PTSD. Or am I missing something. You are going to make me look up this new and improved lable huh? LOL. I thought it was all this "comorbid" crap that really cut you out as PTSD to begin with though we do not all have every one of them, just some a few and some a lot. PTSD still PTSD.

Yeah that's what I thought too. Like I said it's super confusing. I think it makes the "experts" feel more important about themselves.

You made me look it up and after the first definition I thought it was bullshit honestly, but then again I am not a doc... But how can the first form of PTSD (a disorder) be listed as, and I qoute "normal stress response"? No wonder it is confusing. I think they have too much time on their hands. OK, sorry not in bright spirits tonight. But I still call BS. http://psychcentral.com/lib/2006/12/types-of-ptsd/

But I came across where "they" (some docs) are wanting to say addiction to caffine is a psychological disorder too a few days back. I would have to dig for that one again.

The DSM V is going to complicate the shit out of the condition completely though, so stay tuned for when that one gets released. It will categorize PTSD into so many different types, primarily based on how you got it, not what you actually got. Go figure...

What makes me laugh about the new diagnosis coming for PTSD, is that they are actually creating "combat PTSD" and other labels, to outline that a person got PTSD from combat... like durr... how else does a veteran generally get PTSD!!! Spanners....
