Hello everyone, I just found this forum today and am thankful for it.

I have been a police officer almost 20 years and almost 2 years ago was involved in an on duty collission that caused multiple injuries. My career as a police officer will soon end because I've had a series of surgeries and the last made it clear I won't be able to physically do the job anymore. To top it all off, the person who hit me was intoxicated and I just sat through the trial.

In April I began counseling and was diagnosed with PTSD. I am struggling now to deal with all of the issues you talk about on here but only recently began having flashbacks (I've had nightmares a few months) and am trying to learn how to find my triggers.

I thank you all for the good information I've gotten from reading your discussions today and I hope I can continue to learn from those of you who have been dealing with it longer than I.

Hi
Welcome to the forum, thank you for your years of public service, and I am sorry to hear about the pain and troubles you have been/are going through. I think you will find the people here very kind and helpful, and it is a relief to have found someplace where it seems as if we can all identify.
Best of luck in your recovery, and you've come to the right place!

Hi txtrace,

Welcome to the PTSD Forum. I am sorry about your accident, and I hope you find this site a source of healing as you work towards recovery.

Take care.

Hi Txtrace,

I hope I spelled that correctly, my spelling isn't very good today. You've probably seen from browsing already that there are many similarities with this and also everyone is different, has thier own singular 'things' and timelines of healing. For instance, I have a lot of stress at the moment and for some reason it affects the ability to just type out words correctly. The other day 'fog' came out 'gof'- had to blink at the stupid thing for awhile before it could be corrected. It's just an example that whatever you're going through, you're not alone, that's all. There really will always be someone who knows what you're speaking of when you say something, you know?

There's a ton of awfully good information in the articles and Wiki section, plus as you said it's terribly helpful to read others posts. You had the accident and injury trauma, have loss also- it's much to process and heal. The forum really is a good place to be while you deal with all this. Welcome here.

Take care,

Anni

Hi txtrace, I'm pleased you found us and welcome.

There is great information both in the articles and in the threads. For me, it was nice to realise that others know how I am feeling and are supportive.

I hope you find the friendship that I have found. I would not be at the stage I am now without the fourms help.

((HUGS)) if you will accept them

Hi txtrace,

I'm new here as well. I'm sorry to hear of your suffering. I hope your road to recovery is a short one.

Thanks everyone.

I have felt like I am loosing my mind. It is one thing for a therapist to tell you that you're experiencing "normal" PTSD symptoms and it's another to finally learn others do experience it.

For me, the wreck isn't the only source of problems for me. PTSD is apparently fairly common among police officers and crime scene investigators (I've done both jobs) and I waited too long to start dealing with that.

@ Anni, I completely understand. I've found that on particularly stressful days I have issues with writing as well as comprehension.

I appreciate you all making me feel "at home" here.
