New Here
I'm no good at introductions so here goes. I'm at a stage in my life where I've just started to make my own choices and one of them is, not letting whats happened to me stop me from living fully. I've only just recently discovered why I am suffering, ptsd. I've been misdiagnosed many times and have been looking for as much information on ptsd as possible. Hopefully this site will be a source of much needed information and support.

Hi IAmAnonymous,

Welcome to the PTSD Forum. You did a great job with your introduction and you definitely came to the right place for information and support.

Looking forward to hearing more from you.
Debbie

Welcome to the forum IAmAnonymous. Many have been misdiagnosed before someone realized that it was PTSD. Take your time, read a few posts / threads and you'll get the hang of it like we all did.

Welcome!

Misdiagnosis is very common in the medical field, especially in psychology and psychiatry, when there are no definitive objective tests or assessments (e.g. blood tests). It has happened to many of us, including me.

A psychiatrist at my university medical center even stated in my medical record that I can hear despite multiple, objective, complete audiological examinations performed at the same medical center over the course of 15 years, which state again and again that I have a profound sensorineural hearing loss. The only reasons the psychiatrist thought that was because I jumped when he hit the floor, on which I was sitting, with a tuning fork and because I am capable of teaching university courses. The dear doctor must have been absent during every basic physics class that describes vibration, let alone common sense. It is quite a hit when I teach in the medical school, PT program, OT program, psychology program, disability studies, etc... and open the records for everyone to view. I was not allowed/permitted to remove the medical record or have it corrected by hospital and medical laws. So instead I use one of my personal nightmares within the medical field to teach others. It is interesting because students tend to remember these stories and become more sensitive.

I hope you gain as much from this website as I have. There is information and more information. There are plenty of personal stories from which to learn and to which to relate. The website keeps expanding and making more and more of a difference.

Take care!
