New Here
Hey y'all,

Afghanistan (2010) infantry vet here. Been in the military since 2003. Was referred to this site by Tnkg1rl because I struggle with PTSD, but not just PTSD but civilian life. I crave to be back in Afghanistan or any other armed conflict. I felt more at peace there than here.

Currently looking for employment, preferable with a PMC but also IT work. So there is my short and sweet intro. Hope to meet y'all!

Welcome Reconner, how is Tnkgr1l?

We all crave to go back because there is a sense of order there. Everyone has a job to do, there is structure and routine. You have a purpose. The military conditioned you for seven or so years, they said jump and you jumped.

Fitting back into society is always a challenge. I have been home now for 7 years and out for 5 and I still miss it.

We have guys on here from the Vietnam conflict and I bet they still miss it too, so your not alone mate.

What you are best to do is read up on and learn everything there is to know about PTSD and how you can manage it as it is with you for life. There are some great articles here....Link Removed

Once again welcome mate.

Jimmy

Welcome to the forum. This is the best place I have found for support, knowledge and friendship for PTSD. You just hit the jackpot my friend. Semper Fi.

Welcome Recon! Having PTSD is the challenge whether you're in civvie life or otherwise because it robs your of coping ability for anything, everything else. Sounds like you're still in? Are you doing a med Board? Make sure you get ALL your medical issues documented now and you manage how they get documented in your medical records.

Stay safe, stay strong...

Welcome Reconner!

I felt more at peace there than here.

I remember the feeling oh so well - and the was some 45 years ago. Your among friends here and we have learned how to savorer those brief moments of peace "one glimpse at a time". Pull up a chair and get comfortable.

..................Pull up a chair and get comfortable. Ba

WTF, how come you guys got chairs, were still siting on sandbags out here.

Bloody typical, you US allways get the high tech stuff before we do. Bloody unfair it what that is. Just not right. ;)

I would complain to my MP, but there as much use a tits on a fish.

Yo! Recon! You guys did some great work on the Ho Chi Minh trail in my day. You will move away from those feelings as you transition back to "civie" life. But it's a slow journey and around here , we call it baby steps.

You're among Brother and Sisters here, all have taken the journey, had set backs and moved forward again. If it were easy, congress would do it! In fact, I wish congress HAD DONE IT!

The water is fine. And I miss it too. The quiet moments that is. I don't miss barking sergeant's and mess halls and incompetent officers. I do miss the treks to nowhere and some of the long helo rides. (Did I say that?)
