Help I Have A Court Date

Having a real hard time right now...probably not as hard as you.TEN. But want you to know I care...will hold hope for a good outcome tomorrow.

Thank you all for your prayers and advice. I will be going in at 9am today. I woke up at 3am (yep nervous) but I got some good sleep. I also went shopping and bought a new dress and some grooming supplies (always makes me feel better). My doctor also sent another note to my lawyer explaining the psychological damage being in court causes me and the added danger to me going to jail. I will also be bringing a drug test from a well respected lab showing that I am clean. I made sure that my outfit matched my prayer beads so I can wear them around my kneck and silently chant if I start to freak out.

SuzieQ, you are absolutely right... the anticipation is almost always worse then the event. I spent several hours last night reading articles on how to dress, speak, and act for a court date... as well as common tricks lawyers use to try to throw you on tilt. I doubt I will be needing to answer any questions but its better to be prepared just in case. I am very grateful for your prayers. :Hug_emoticon:

I am off to groom and take my medication... no chance I am skipping a dose today!

Thank you all for the support and encouragement.

I just got out of the courtroom and wanted to give you all an update. Jo and I both got 12 months probation with community service and risk reduction classes. The specific plea was sighting some case where we state that we are not guilty but it is not in our best interest to fight the legal battle. So we are technically guilty for 12 months but after that not guilty... no record.

I had some anxiety in court but took my medication ahead of time and my lawyer was very supportive. The judge was also very nice. I did not cry or shake or puke or break down and was able to enter the plea agreement with "sound mind" (or so says the court).

I will be able to continue to take any prescribed medication so long as I inform my probation officer of what I am taking and why. I am also allowed to continue to use my herbal teas (the legal ones from the health food store). I will also be able to leave the state once the class and community service is done as long as I notify my probation officer. I am not allowed to drive for 30 days (I quit driving anyway) and will be continuing to walk/ride a bike/cab. I will be watched to make sure I do not do something stupid like drink or break the law. Overall it was an acceptable result.

Thanks again for all the prayers, good energy, advice, and emotional support. I really needed it and feel that it helped me get through this very stressful day.

I wish you all the best,

Liz H.

Liz -

Sounds like the best solution for you. I'm glad it's over and that you handled it well. I'm sorry that you are having to take this on - but am thrilled that once you have finished all the requirements you will not have guilty plea your record.

You did good - take it easy the rest of the day.

That is great news. I was hoping it would be the plead but not guilty one. :)

You did great. Go pamper yourself.

This, I am really happy for you. I just couldn't imagine the horror of you having to go to jail. The drug test....what a great idea!!!!

TEN,

What great news!! I'm so glad that glob of chaos is behind you. Take care to stay cool with your Probation Officer.

It was so encouraging to hear about you taking care of yourself during this process. You did a lot of homework and did it well.:clap:

Whenever I have gone through a lot of stress like you have, I have a "God Box" that I use. This is any type of box that I put worries and questions on paper. I also put heavy duty mental-type problems in there. I put the date on each one and after a week has passed, I look to see if the situation has changed or, most often than not, taken care of itself. This helps me to let go and let...... If the problem is still plaguing me, I re-write it and date it for another week.

This method has helped me to quit re-processing things in my head that I have no control over. I therefore gain more peace and tolerance for living life on life's terms.

Hope this helps! Best wishes and will be thinking of ya!!

Thank you all so much! I am sure your prayers helped. :Hug_emoticon:

I love SuzieQ's idea of a God box. I might have to try that. There are some things in this world that are just out of our control.

It also helped that someone had given me a small purse sized Bible so I was able to read Psalm 91 while I waited. That was very soothing.

I am going to try to take it easy for the rest of the day and play video games and make myself a nice cup of stress relief tea.

Thanks Again!

Liz H.

Great result! Sorry you had to deal with it at all...but sounds like it is doable and you may get a really cool community service gig, eh?

Hi, Sorry to enter your thread after it was all over but my PTSD involves courts/lawyers/judges'courthouses, (among other things- I had an abusive ex, stalker, long story) and it sent me up the wall just seeing the posting title. I really want to be part of this community though, and part of that must be to offer support esp. where one knows someone else is going through something familiar, and finally read all the posts here. I am SO happy for you it turned out well and you managed to make it through everything! I'd like to add that the rather good outcome was a hugely positive thing to read for me and thanks much for sharing.
Take care!
