Albatross, I heard that 'emotional sponge' description from all of the other patients in the trauma group at hospital. The thought alone is really frightening to me, like alien probes invading all that is 'me'. I very much need a clear feeling of 'me' plus external markers like 'my own room', 'my own money', 'my own time', 'my own bar of chocolate'; I share happily, but I need to be asked or I'll feel violated.
It's an interesting thought that maybe the love you did experience somewhere in your upbringing caused you to 'stay open' for other people's emotions. Do you feel isolated when you can't relate to other people?
