New Here
Hi everyone,

I am (or was) the supporter of a veteran with combat PTSD/TBI. Not married, but long term dating. He initiated a break up while going through some rough times and said that he needs to find himself. I am just here looking for support from others who have been in the same situation. It is hard when you love someone and want to help them, and have that person walk away so easily. I don't know if we will get back together, but it would be nice to have someone to talk to about the struggles of being a caregiver and finding happiness after a break up. Looking forward to making new friends here.

Thanks guys,

Hi and welcome to the forum:) If you go to the supporter forums you will meet alot of really wonderful people who have been there and will understand. You are not alone. It is nice to meet you.

Hi.

My husband has PTSD from his 3 tours of duty. He is now about to deploy on his 4th. He has not actually left me, but he does walk away from me when I want to discuss our situation. He also claims that nothing will help us. He refuses to see a counselor with me. So, I guess we have some things in common.

I fear that our next step is separating if things do not change. He tells me that if I am not happy, I can "go ahead and leave." I am sorry for what you are going through. It is not easy, and hopefully we can both find support here.

I am in exactly the same situation.

I am 41 and he is 35. My boyfriend is a burn survivor and for the last 1 1/2 years since his injury he has emotionally slipped away. We have been on again and off again so many times. The times that we see each other or even talk are so far and in between. He is no longer there.

He says he is trying to protect me. I sort of get that now but I had rather be there through the bad times than not at all. We are currently on another break (his request) I don't know if this is the final one or if he will come around again.

I am currently on anti-depressents and therapy trying to cope with the emotional pain. I don't know what to tell you as I am seeking answers for myself as well. But you are not alone in your pain.
