I'm a long term survivor as I'm 52 years old and have been suffering from anxiety since my first memories. Or perhaps, instead of anxiety, it was just sheer terror appropriate for the situation as such was my childhood. I'll refrain from discussing my memories until I know everybody better.

My diagnoses include: multiple counts of PTSD, depression, and GAD (anxiety).

My particular brand of disorder has been progressive over the years although I recently (2 years ago) figured out that I'm allergic to gluten and casein (dairy protein) and I've been making a steady recovery since that time.

I've tried a wide number of medications from both Neurologists and Psychologists. Too many to recall really and the majority were extremely harmful and debilitating. There have been some kind souls wishing to help, but there have also been others driven by their ego that were very detrimental.

My working assumption now is that I suffer from both PTSD and an auto-immune disorder. The two seem to be strongly linked. For example, successfully treating the auto-immune disorder can have a huge positive effect on the PTSD/anxiety.

I have a spiritual dimension. Save that for later.

Welcome to the forum. I too found that avoiding gluten and processed foods helps my PTSD symptoms. :tup: I'm sorry you have to be here, but glad you found us. I hope that you find this site as Beneficial in your road to healing as I have. :happy::hug:Raven

You are very right that what we do with our body, can affect our mind. My therapist calls it the mind/body connection. I completely agree that eating a healthier diet and adding yoga, tai chi, light exercise, anything to get us moving, can greatly reduce the ptsd symptoms. I am glad you found us, it's a good group of people :) x

Hello and welcome @aquascape
Sounds like you've been through the rungs with trying to find the right help, or something/one that actually does help. It can be very disillusioning - or certainly was for me.
I too see the mind body connection as I developed fibromyalgia alongside PTSD - makes total sense really - inflammation of the body.
I've seen a lot of improvement in both in the last couple of years. It's encouraging!
Glad you found your way here.

Hi aquascape,

Nice to meet you here. I have Multiple Sclerosis, was diagnosed about 25 years ago and is the secondary relapsing remitting version. It didnt really get in the way of functioning that much, until I went through a huge ordeal in my late 30's. I do think it makes trauma worse. It might be linked to ptsd in childhood, not sure. Autoimmune disease and terror / anxiety seem to be partnered up a lot, Ive noticed that too. I hope you start feeling better soon.

@aquascape Welcome to the forum!

Stress is hugely detrimental to the immune system and it is astounding the number of members here that suffer form auto immune disorders. I do not believe the mind and body are separate and what is healing to one is beneficial to the other. I hope you find both the information and support here beneficial to your own healing.

Welcome to the forums :hug: I hope this spot helps you. It's extremely valuable as a result of the mass measure of individuals who feel comparative and understand eachother. There is a great deal of counsel and backing to be found here :) I trust this stunning group helps you as much as it helped me, reading all the similar stories, and taking in a lot of support along the way. Hugs in the event that you accept :hug:
