This note taking used to make me highly anxious. So much so that I would read my T notes before I would leave the session. If he did not allow me to look at the notes we would have not worked together for very long. This also got me over the fear of the note taking. It no longer bothers me.

None of mine ever have done this, so I don't know how I would take it. I suppose, if she seemed to be listening to me and speaking reassuringly to me, it would be OK. I do know that she goes to her computer right after our session and writes stuff then. I like that ok. It is not distracting then at all.

I had a psychiatrist who sat behind her laptop the entire first session - directly looked at me maybe twice - all the while asking very probing questions. While that wasn't the only reason I didn't go back (she also issued an ultimatum regarding sharing information with my primary care physician), it certainly contributed to it.

My prior therapist didn't typically take notes, although I did see him eyeing his notepad once and told him to go ahead and write whatever he was thinking down :). My current therapist doesn't take notes during session, but does refer to them at times.

Personally, I would prefer they don't take notes during session, I find it distracting.

I have never really been bothered by my therapist taking notes. He is able to analyze what I say and observe my actions in a way that I am incapable of doing and I trust in him as a professional. He allows me to notice things about myself that I am often unaware of, which better helps me put my feelings in perspective.

This is actually an issue for me. I asked my T if he could not take notes and he agreed and now he seems to have forgotten and takes notes again. Do I mention it again? Or perhaps when I come to a topic that I can't stand I should say, "you can't write this down." It is uncomfortable to discuss...

I'm new to the therapy. But she has been taking notes as a time line. So i'm not bothered by it at all and feel pretty comfortable with the note taking. Not sure how it will be after the time line ia b over
