How Do You Know If You've Got Cptsd?

What do you mean by borderline or dissociative features?
Sorry I feel a bit dumb?

Features of a dissociative disorder or Borderline Personality Disorder. Obviously, dissociative symptoms are part of the diagnostic criteria for PTSD, but sometimes they get a little more extreme than just "numbing out" or having vivid flashbacks. Like when people black out entire years of their lives, or hear voices in their head.

Borderline Personality Disorder is separate from PTSD, although they often occur together. It's characterized by rapid fluctuations in mood, emotional reactivity, impulsive or self-sabotaging behavior, and unstable relationships.

I wish I could 'black out' the last 10 years of my life. Even numbing them a bit would be good. LOL (sorry if it sounds like I am taking the mickey) The vivid flashbacks I can do without any struggle at all. Had a horrible one tonight and still having the shudders. That trauma is nearly 40 damn years old and has come back to say Hi. I think not knowing or not being able to remember would be way better. My trouble is I remember too much. too much of the wrong things at least. Does any one else have this. You can only remember the bad stuff but there would have to be some good there too, surely?????

I have just looked at the links posted by Anthony. It is certainly interesting to read of the proposed changes in the DSM-V, however I must say as someone diagnosed with C-PTSD I am disappointed it is not to be recognised.

I did not ask for this diagnosis, but have the fortune to be treated by a Therapist with a specific interest in Trauma, although he works in general psychiatry. I personally feel, that this 'label' shows that he fully understands my situation. I am not of the idea that C-PTSD is any better or any worse than PTSD, but I do believe it to have differences. These differences mean that the treatment is tailored to suit me.

Here in the UK where, generally, we are not dealing with medical insurance etc, it makes not one jot of difference whether the diagnosis is in the DSM or ICD 10.

When you say flashbacks Teddy, please describe what you define as a flashback please, ie. what happens to you when you perceive having a flashback?

I don't think you can be diagnosed with CPtsd in the UK as it doesn't officially exist.

Although I personally agree that it makes sense.
