Jadebear, you might be interested in reading a book called "The Body Remembers" by Babette Rothschild. It goes into extensive detail about how memories are normally recorded and how trauma causes significant disruption to this process. It really helped give me an understanding of why I would get visual OR auditory OR physical flashbacks without any emotional counterpart, OR overwhelming emotions (primarily terror, rage and sadness) that seemed to come out of nowhere, with no images or thoughts seeming to provoke them.

As a side note, I contacted the author and she referred me to an excellent trauma therapist who specializes in sensorimotor work. It's very different from the traditional talk therapy I've been doing for umpteen years, and I'm seeing much more rapid progress.

It does matter who you tell, what if the person you told went around and told everyone in the school that you were sexually abused? This happened to me and I would only tell someone you really trust, like a therapist because they understand. I understand you Nyx, but I don't agree, because so many things could occur that could make your situation worse.
I didn't mean it like shouting out or going around telling anyone. I was talking more about your support network. It doesn't necessarily have to be your T, that's the idea. I agree that it's not safe to say it to anybody but only people you trust :)
