"how Enlightened Families Argue"

Thanks for putting it up and it made me grin. I thought it was pretty funny.

Happy Thanksgiving to those who do one, the messaging from my family and interaction for me during holidays can be so difficult that we're working... especially liked the part about the booze.

Gearing up for the holiday. In the usual way of us who have far too much family around, we are having two Thanksgivings and family gatherings throughout the WHOLE WEEKEND. Cousins in from far and wide. At least we don't have to do three, since my mother just died. But her funeral is on Tuesday, so we will segue from family thanksgiving to family mourning, and the delights of family will continue.

Because I do "parts work" in therapy, this video was especially poignant for me. Aside from being quite humorous (which I need a lot of these days) it is a good reminder to me that I'm not the only one who has parts...it's just that I'm aware of mine, whereas most of the family are not aware of theirs. So it will help me interact with more compassion, I hope, so I can stay connected in the ways I would like to, rather than zooming off into my own private world or taking on everybody elses sht as my own responsibility.

Gearing up for radical self-care. At least, due the profoundly controlling and rigid and passive aggressive natures of my various elderly in-laws who insist on hosting the dinners despite our offers to take on the responsibility, all we have to cook today is vegetables. A lot of vegetables. For once, I am grateful to not be gearing up for a dinner party. Yay. Small blessings.

Happy Thursday.

As a former boozer, I have to say my favorite part was (hoisting a glass) "I want to disconnect myself from all of this emotion with alcohol" (and the subsequent toast all around). Also the youngest at the table "tonight I have learned a lot of habits that I will have for the rest of my life". So true, so funny... in the "right circles" I imagine. It may sound stupid bit in all my years of booze recovery I never really thought of it as disconnecting (substance abuse or addiction)... only numbing. But it IS. :O_o:
