As a concerned parent, there are many ways you can help your kids fight depression and get back on track. I followed few tips to follow to get my teen out of depression:

1. Keeping up with activities: Teenagers who spend more time in different kind of activities are less prone to feeling depressed. So, I made my son join sports, fitness & recreation program at Boys & Girls Club Of Central Texas.

2. Talking about the problem: Parents should have a little chat with their kids every now and than to see what's bothering them.

3. Organizing fun family nights: Try to save the weekends for family and spend quality time with your kids.

And however good your suggestions may be, sometimes they're not enough. Some of us have been doing these things with our kids all along and despite that, our kid has still developed symptoms of depression. Never underestimate the value in getting your kid a therapist instead of thinking you can solve everything yourself.

And some depression is psychological not environmental which I think is more of what you are talking about. Major Depressive Disorder for example, you wouldn't be able to "deal" with in 3 steps.

But I will give you major credit for noticing and trying to help your son with his depression. I never got help as a teenager for my depression and how my mother didn't notice it, I don't know. I hope that you are also getting him professional help as well.

Take care.

I agree. My mother definitely recognized mine and did those things too, however, nowadays, she does say from time to time, "I wish I had taken you to see a T. I'm so sorry." lol
