Supporter here. I think you might not believe me but I have beten victim of rape/sexual abuse... Not sure how to call it... something inbetween twice and in both cases the perps have been Muslim. I know I never mentioned it while I mentioned how much it shocked me when I learned about WWII rapes.
There are two reasons a) I always felt that those rapes where worse because the victims had no right to complain, no police to turn to and b) my experience did not give me PTSD and I don't mentioned it very often because I don't want to be stigmatized.

You probably know my country made the decission to open the borders for everybody, no passport needed anymore and I fear that a lot of women-hating religious fanatics have used this to enter.

In new years eve there have been mass sexual harrasment in at least three German cities. In the worst case, Cologne, 1000 Muslim men gathered and out of this crowd several groups of 40 to 50 men started harrassing non- Muslim women, tore their clothes of them and stole from them.

The mayor of Cologne told women how to behave on upcoming carnival in order to not be harrassed. :(

I am very unhappy because I am not sure if the State can guarantee for my safety and even more important that of my boys.

What makes it even worse for me is that nearly all our politicians say that it would be a insult for abused or harrassed women if you blame this on religion. How dare they to speak for me? I blame this on religion. There are good people in every religion, but fundamental islam has a problem with women's rights and tolerance for "Infidels".

I don't want revenge. I wish everybody well but they have to think of our children before we keep the borders open for everybody.

My husband and me are very unhappy and he is now looking into jobs abroad. He loves his country so much but now even he thinks of leaving.

It is so repulsive what happened and how its NOT being dealt with. Have nothing to add, but you certainly have my sympathies. As a gay man, who are being targeted as well, I feel very anxious about this too. Cannot imagine how stressed out this must make you, as your anxiety is much less irrational then mine.

I have worked with children from countries of fundamental islam for years, and I really don't like their religion. Fundamental islam is as toxic as a belief system can get, especially with the uneducated. It's quite horrible. Then again, if religion meets uneducated one always is in for a fun time.

I typically see the bright side of everything but cannot see anything good coming from this.
I am in favour of helping the refugees but why not help them clother to their homes and most people who come are not even refugees but gold-diggers from other countries. Why are People allowed to enter without a passport?

I am so worried about the future of my Boys and also for my own safety.

My husband who has PTSD is afraid of me going to the train station alone and he does not want to come with me because he is afraid of crowded places and now suddenly I understand him. We do not live in Cologne, not even close... But still.

My husband always wanted me to use a GPS tracker and I always was opposed to it but now I will do it.

It's scary and I just wanted to talk about it.

I'm very sorry this happened to you, and I understand your fears. But I have to question your logic about this being the fault of Islam. It is an insult to blame this on religion, and quite frankly it's ignorant and bigoted. May I remind you the genital mutilation of women is a Christian problem, not a Muslim one? And it's still practiced today in Christian countries. Also, the attacks you spoke of in Cologne were horrifying and yes, that is a cause for alarm -- but I haven't seen any information in the German media reports that the attackers were all Muslim. Police said the men were from "Arab and North African countries." That does not make them all Muslims. Not everyone in North African and Arab countries are Muslim. It seems much more likely to me that these men are aggressive and terrible because they have come from poor, shattered countries. That's the main prerequisite for many crimes - poverty and a break down of law and order - NOT religion. So you should consider why you are blaming this specifically on Islam. It seems to me the obvious reason would be that your rapists in the past were Muslim. If I were raped by Muslims, I too would see something menacing in all of them, it's understandable. But maybe you should try to be more self-aware about this, and recognize that you are projecting these fears onto wider society. Because if you start vilifying all Muslims, well, you're not really any better than the radical Islamists who want to punish all infidels and non-believers, now are you?

There is a big gulf between a religion and their fundamental splinter. To be critical of one is not necessarily to be critical of the other. I loath fundamentalism, having spent years working with young people infested by it.
I also don't believe in cultural relativism.

I never said I was a fan of fundamental christianity, did I? I was born in a poorer Country (GDR). My parents spend a big part of their lifes in that country. What you say about people from poor countries is bigotted against the poor.
But even if they where like this just because they had been poor it would still be wrong to open our borders and let everybody in unvetted because the first duty of the state is to protect the local Population... Insted of telling Local Women: "Sorry, we cannot protect you. Please cover your Body because the sight of a naked elbow may arose them". This is RACIST against the Local Woman who is seen as a second class human being.

@Mallakey: Can you tell me more about your work?

@Lemontree I'm not entirely sure you understood my feedback. I didn't say all poor people are bad, i said poverty and a break down of law and order are usually the prerequisite for crime, not religion. it seems like you just got a bit defensive while reading my comments. I don't disagree with you that the situation you describe is outrageous -- it is -- and it's alarming that authorities seem to prefer to turn a blind eye rather than do something. But my point is it had nothing to do with religion or Islam. And saying it did, to me, just seems like irrational projecting. Anyway, we can agree to disagree about the Islam thing, the main thing is that I do sympathize with you and understand your frustrations. There is nothing worse than realizing that the government that is meant to protect you is either unwilling or unable to do so ...

I am sorry for what happened to you, @Lemontree. These men had no right to assault you, and I can certainly see the fears arising from the experience and difficulty now.

Though misogyny is a much larger problem, that isn't limited to a single religion. Painting billions with this broad brush doesn't serve anyone any good. We could be having this discussion on any continent about any religion whose followers are deemed Other enough, and it would be the same logically flawed.

Otherwise, what @Casey_03 said.

Hmm...assuming these are fresh immigrants and not German-born ethnic Africans is a jump.
But no matter. What they did was wrong and in no way the fault of the victims.
Does not matter what the victims were wearing or doing.
The perpetrator chooses every time, it's not a loss of control.

Nobody notes how derogatory it is to men in general, to even imply they cannot help themselves. They can.
Patriarchy is hardly exclusive to Islam... Or universal in it.

I think the response from officials is partly informed by patriarchy; the discounting of women's issues and victim-blaming.
It's not acceptable.

@Stickler: The policemen present at the scene say many had documents identifying them as fresh refugees .

Please note that I spoke of fundamental islam which is not the same as normal Islam. There are many Muslims who are victims of fundamental islam. Take gay Muslims for example - they are not safe in our refugee shelters anymore because those who hate them entered the Country with them.
There are those Problems in Islam and many Muslims notice them too.

For the non German ppl here I`d like to clarify some things here, as I think that the given informations are not complete.
The women who were assaulted in cologne and other cities during new years eve werent all just non-muslim women. This was not an attack of muslim men against non muslim women it was rather men predominantly from the same heritage against women in general.
The political response was a catastrophy, but seriously, when were they ever capable of securing us (men and women) from experiencing sexual violence anywhere?

There is no evidence or clue that the pepetrators where fundamental/extremist muslims, coming form a predominantly muslim country does not make u a fundamentalist - being a sexist doesnt make u an extremist muslim.

Im a german Muslim and like u lemontree, my husband and me are thinking about leaving the country. We are scared as u are, because of violence, no matter if it is caused in sexism or racism. This is affacting all of us. Maybe u like to check out #ausnahmslos - a page by german men and women of all heritages trying to understand what happened, without using racist stigmas as explanation - for the well being of all of us - and our children.

I also want to tell you how sorry I am for what happened to you - I wish u all the strength in this world for ur healing process!
