Also, something that helps me is recognizing the symptoms of dissociating for me, recognizing the symptoms that come with a flashback or a trigger for me personally...or anxiety.
Things like nausea, feeling like I'm in a tunnel, feeling trapped, feeling....(insert), etc.....
Instead of just sitting there and going through it like I did in the past, (except for flashbacks because those aren't always easy to do anything), I have an action plan. When I'm feeling nauseous, like today, I went into the kitchen by myself and told myself out loud, "You are safe. You are safe. You are safe. It's okay. You are safe." I had a veggie snack, drank some cold water and touched my arms. I turned on a show that I like and watched it.
When I am feeling anxiety, I take a hot bath with some music that I like.
When I am feeling trapped or depressed, I get online and share about it or I look at positive images that have an inspirational saying on it.
By the way, again, this is all really recent for me. For me to be remembering what to do is a huge breakthrough for me. I never did these things before. Life before PTSD was automatic for me. I don't think I did anything mindfully lol, but I have to now. And I have to do what I have to do in order to recover. Like someone here told me before, it takes practice. The more you practice them, the more your brain will remember them.
I realize you probably already know this stuff, but right now, because I've had so much good result from this new way of thinking and being mindful, I feel like I need to get on my mega phone lol :D
