Sufferer I Don't Think I Have Ptsd

My friends tell me that they think I have PTSD because they attribute my symptoms to the fact that I was in the Army. I don't think I have PTSD because nothing that bad ever happened to me and I never felt traumatized. But I have mental issues that aren't going away. I get twitches and muscle jerks all the time, from the moment I wake up. I get terrible anxiety to the point where if it happens, it will last all day and ruins the day. Sometimes I feel paranoid and that actually leads to paranoid dillusions or possible hallucinations.

Ever since after Iraq, I moved to a foreign country. I haven't been in America in 5-6 years now. They don't really do psychology where I'm at. I guess I can get pills, but I wouldn't know what to take. So I can't go to a doctor for this really. I went to one doctor and he gave me valium, but all that really does is nearly put me to sleep. Anyway I really don't know what to do. This isn't something simple I can fix with meditation or a better diet and exercise. It's out of control and I'd like to find out if there's some people who went through what I went through and can tell me what to do.

Hello JackAndy and welcome - like you say you cannot self-diagnose and you certainly cannot self-medicate! Whilst you are more than welcome here and to post here, there is a fellow-site for the Armed Forces that you can find here:

http://

They will not be able to diagnose you either, but you will be able to discuss what you went through with others who have no doubt been through the same.

I hope that helps...

JackAndy, Welcome to the Forum. A professional diagnosis can give you the direction and treatment methods that are available.

I call the forum "The best place on the planet". The information and support available is outstanding while you are trying to find clarity.

We are never alone or judged here! I wish you success with your journey. Whitney

Is there a chance of making a trip/trips to a country where you could get a diagnosis? It sounds like a really difficult situation, not having access to psychology services, when this would probably benefit you more than anything. Maybe if you could get a diagnosis you might then be able to have appropriate counselling via Skype or similar?

JackAndy, When you have a chance I would recommend reading the article on PTSD by Anthony. There are many misconception's about the illness.

The best part of this site is the tools provided while your on the journey. Please try not to allow the what if's to hold you back.

Around every corner will be someone experienceing similar feelings. No one judges here!

Skype is a computer video program where you can contact anyone, anywhere depending on your ISP speed and computer/camera options.

Some regular counsellors/psychotherapists will offer sessions by Skype or telephone to those living in a different location from them who can't come to see them face to face like their other clients. If you're thinking about doing this, make sure they're a registered/licensed therapist or counsellor, in addition to checking that the type of therapy and the individual sound like they might suit you.

I don't know if Skype could be an option for therapy with/via veterans' services. It might be worth finding out, if you come under their remit. Members at the companion site My Combat PTSD might be able to advise on that.

I'm not sure that you can get a diagnosis in that way, but you could at least get some professional support.
