My PTSD came a year after my dad went into a life threatening rage after I spent a morning working with my supervisor on a cattle stud. My Supervisor and I were talking about 'success' stuff. My step-dad car's drove past the paddocks I was working in. After cattle-work, I came home in the afternoon and refused my mum to wash up the dishes on the basis that I always did it and I was attacked. I did not believe I was attacked so harshly because I wouldn't do with the dishes, but because I was succeeding in my personal and work and study life outside home.

I was unable to work in a paid position for longer than about 2 months after I got PTSD. I have now worked in my my current job for a year. So I guess I don't have that limit any more.:)

Maze,

Congrats! This is such great news! Thank you for sharing. I am so very happy for you!

Did you do anything differently with this job, do you think it was a combination of factors.

Either way, great work!

LhasaLover. There was a few difference between this job and others, but mostly it was the work I had done with my PTSD that made the difference. In this job, I had started processing my trauma, which was related to work. My psychologist said I spent 12 years processing things around my trauma and then 3 years processing the trauma itself. My psychologists said I was not ready to take in the trauma emotions as they were too strong. I had to get stronger for 12 years before looking at them.

Even though my psychologist addressed my trauma, I still would have not been able to succeed in a regular job. I needed time out to process, so I picked a job where I didn't have to think much so I didn't become over-stressed. I was also lucky to have a supervisor who was patient and good to me, relatively, while I got better.
