This came a couple days after I ran my first marathon. I have generalized anxiety disorder. My therapist has always suggested that I get out. I started running a year and a half ago. I found a great running store in my town that provided training sessions. I have loved it so much that I have taken all of the training sessions. I decided that I loved running so much that I wanted to start helping other people with running. Last night was the first night of a new training program that kicked off and I was a mentor for the second time around. The first time wasn't so great but I wasn't very confident in myself. So I decided to try it again. Last night I felt I really made a difference in someone's life. I met a lady who wanted to get back into running. I could tell she was struggling to keep up with the rest of the group so I stayed behind. She said she joined the program because a friend told her it would be good to get out and do something for her depression. So I did my motivating and told her that she made it out of the house tonight and that was better than all the other people sitting in there houses right now. That really lifted her spirit. Turns out she has generalized anxiety disorder too. I told her to come back next session because I would be waiting for her. She gave me a big hug and left. It was a great feeling to know that I am not the only one who struggles. It was also a reminder of how far I have come in the past couple years.

I know how great this feels. The same thing happens to me with teaching martial arts. It's an incredible feeling to be contributing to someone's health and well-being, and to see them overcoming obstacles and excelling.
