If We All Lived In The Same Town....

"hey, you kinda went off and destroyed the neighborhood mailbox yesterday... are you feeling better today?"
This raises an interesting question. There are people with PTSD who tend to a fight response and need to let it out physically, and other people with PTSD who are triggered by aggression even if it is aimed at inanimate objects in their presence. How do we accommodate both? Could we maybe have a separate section of town where it is all right to destroy mailboxes... or set up with a whole lot of punching bags... or recycling stations where you can smash glass to your heart's content... where people can go to let out their anger safely, and other areas that are anger-free? Sounds like we need a whole lot more signs. Hey Scout, when is the committee meeting again?

See, the thing that works about skills in Shimmerzville is no one will expect you to have the same set of skills available from 9 to 5 Monday through Friday. You can use your skills when you feel up to it. If you need to put up a sign in your window saying "Taking a Break, Try Again Later" you can do that and no one will think any worse of you.

Which comes back to a need for more signs. Scout?

Ummmmmm.......... I think I forgot to write it down, so I'm not sure? :bag:

I LIKE the idea of smashing glasses! Maybe we could look at this as a form of exposure therapy?
I have no skills..... what happens to people like me?
They are gently taught that it's not necessary to lie about their skills! :shifty:

As we will be having our own vegetable garden, believe me its gonna need to be a big one to feed all of us. Taking our aggression out on digging and planting, gathering crops and the hard physical labor involved will certainly help with the out letting of emotion.

When a sufferer is busy physically their mind does not wander, we slip back into trauma state when our minds are inactive because when we are physically inactive we are mentally inactive, our subconscious has nothing to distract us from.
