If You Could Change / Want One Thing On The Forum?

Not a terrible idea, IMO, Bear. I know there have been times when I've tried responding to members (as a fellow member, not a mod) and they lashed out at me just because I was a mod. For me, it makes it harder to participate in the forum because I'm never sure how my input will be received. That's true for anyone, but sometimes it can feel like having the Mod title attached to my name can give me an extra hurdle.

I have two different Facebook accounts, one with my maiden name and one with my married name. I think there's good reason for them because some people I knew with my maiden name (abusers and users) I wouldn't want to have them know my married name. Still, there are people who know both and are only seeing one of my accounts. There are certain things I share with each group, and certain things I refuse to share with each group. I'm getting rather tired of it, really. I feel duplicitous.

I guess what I'm saying is that despite how it could benefit us to have a different login so members would treat us like any other... there would be some amount of deception in it. If only that we conceal our mod identity. What we say as mods wouldn't affect us as members and vice versa... but, shouldn't it? Would it end up making us less accountable in some ways? If nothing else, it seems like it breeds distrust to allow it. Other members can't have two logins, and other members would wonder... hmmm, do you think X is a mod?

Sharing is an honor that you bestow on others. I'm not going to share the names of my children with the local child molester. They don't deserve the honor. If some people can't be bothered to be honorable enough to deserve my sharing with them, They are the ones at fault.

Also, think of it as triggers. Suppose group A is triggered by B. Would it be nice of you to trigger them? Also suppose some people whom you care about have a tendency to do bad things when presented with the opportunity. You don't want to throw them under the bus by giving them the opportunity...

Those that have issues with authority already don't trust the mods. Anthony sees everything and is quite well known for disciplining his mods. And besides everyone already know who is a mod. That wouldn't change. They just wouldn't know which mod did what. But all of the mods and Anthony would.

I totally understand your worry ML and in no way discount it.

I guess my favorite part of the idea is that when Amethist responds to BigBear, I know that it is my friend responding and that as that friend, there is no authority threat. When Mod1 responds to BigBear, it doesn't mater who it is (and I just plain don't know). They have the authority of Anthony and I'd better put down the gun and back away...

I completely understand your opinion on this, Muzik. I wasn't thinking of it in terms of secret mods, though. More like what Bear describes...members could/would know who mods were, they just wouldn't necessarily know which mod had issued a warning or edited a post. Obviously, other mods and admins would.

It's not really something that I think actually needs to be implemented. I'm okay with the way things are. I was just saying that I could see value in what Bear was describing.

I would like a button that posts my thoughts at a particular time without me having to actually type it.
That way I would say what I really mean to say without all those spelling and grammar mistakes that I have to correct before I touch the 'post reply' button.

I suppose there would need to be a start and stop button or it would ramble on forever. However you might find that I actually post longer posts and contribute more.... but on the other hand I tend not to read really long posts anyway, so why would others?

And of course the other problem is that a non-mod (me) suggested it. I have absolutely no background to base such a recommendation on. It kind of goes hand in hand with my thought about "Ask Nicolette". Volunteer someone else to do more work... LOL!

The whole dual account thing was also done much earlier in time, and it failed. Staff got sick of it within a day or two, having to login / logout between accounts when they found one thing, then needed their other account to correct the issue, etc. It literally doubled things for them. It lasted no longer than a week and all got sick of it. I even tried it... took me two days and then scrapped it.

One might think mentally there is a difference, however; members treated both accounts the same, as writing style was the same and they knew who was who anyway. Instantly the member account was being used to for moderating aspects, and it was a huge waste of time. Nice in theory, sucks in practice.

Better chat program (was that said already? I don't know)

Probably costs money and can't imagine the amount of work but yep..that'd be nice

In what way?

Flashcoms chat is pretty much neck and neck with 123flashchat, as the best chat programs in the world today. It is an either / or choice... all the rest are sub-standard in comparison and features.

Are they sub-standard in server failures too?

I mean, if you want to give me a list of the chat programs that you can work with, I can take a check through and let you know which one I think would be more useful....

:roflmao:

Ok man, so that's a no.
