I'm A Good Child...

I agree with that Misul. I believe it is different and should be approached and handled differently. I think my therapist deals with childhood trauma because there are 5 others ones in that office and my old P matched her up with me based on my past.

Hi Misul.

I have suffered childhood trauma too and have found Dr Clarrissa Pinkola Estes' audiobook "Warming the stone child" to be a great help. It is specifically for survivors of childhood trauma. She speaks it herself but does not read from a script it is more like storytelling. I have a few of her audiobooks and listen to them at night whenever I like.

Healing for the “Unmothered Child”

The pain of abandonment, both real and metaphorical, can cast a shadow over our entire adult experience. Warming the Stone Child investigates the abandoned child archetype in world myths and cultures to find clues about the process of healing the unmothered child within us all. Along the way, this gifted storyteller and Jungian psychoanalyst instructs us about the psychology of abandonment in childhood, how it affects us in later life, and its curiously special gifts and powers. Join her as she illuminates:

The Inuit fable of the Stone Child
Symptoms of the adult “abandoned child”
The story of the Little Red Cap
The English tale of the Stolen Woman Moon
The four types of abandonment
Re-creating the inner mother, and much more.

Drawing from many world cultures, Dr. Estés has gathered a collection of deep myths, fables, and fairy tales with the adult listener in mind. Her storytelling creates a compelling picture of the orphan figure through the ages, while helping us understand the meaning of preadolescent abandonment in our own lives. Spiced with wonderful storytelling, Warming The Stone Child is a unique listening experience with a practical edge.

It can be found at sounds true.

You're not alone.

I often feel like a child. While in the hospital I learned that my development was messed up somewhere in the "safety" department (I was abused at the age where kids are learning about safety and trust---3-4 years old.) So, it's no wonder that I still struggle with feeling safe and don't feel like a true adult. (I'm about your age, by the way.)

That DEFINITELY sounds good to me. I have always related so much to a certain archetype and fantasize that I am friends with all of them. Most of my favorite characters (mostly from Korean and American Indian stories) are the abandoned children. One of the best is a boy who grows up to be an assassin because he father always told him he was "bad" and abused him. It's such a good story, though he has a bad end. The thing I like about these stories is that there is no good guy or bad guy. There is no push to "change people" (repair "broken" humans) but to understand them. That's why I'm very enthusiastic about my culture - it's healed me a great deal so I never turned to anything external like drugs, alcohol, or sex. I have a good spiritual connection.

I'm glad it sounds like it could help.

Dr Estes is from a refugee background so she really knows trauma. I think her storytelling is a lot European but from all over the world really.

From what you have said I think her audiobook would be great for you. She is on FB too, I'm not sure if that's any good to you. She does speak a lot to the people that comment which I think is great.
