I'm On Medication Now

Hi guys..

So I got some pills today. They are called Propranolol.
I should take these when I know I will be exposed to stressful situations, or when exposed.

Does any of you know these, and if yes, how do they work for you. Anything I should be on a lookout fore??

The best way to inform yourself on the drug is by plain ol' Google. Just type the name in the search box and it will come up with sites like Drugs.com and more. Some of the sites also have "contra-indicator" programs to tell you if it will react with other meds you take. Then, armed with the facts, come back here and ask specific questions that weren't answered by the websites.

We can say "yeah, it works good" or "take it with lotz of food" but that won't suffice for technical info. It sounds to me like the drug that Dr. OD'ed Michael Jackson with, BUT I won't know until I look it up myself.

Not picking on ya' Johnny, just a suggestion.

Thats a start. As you will see there a a ton of meds out there and no two alike. I don't take meds for my PTSD but I have a whole host of ailments that require to be aware of what I put in me. I learned the best advocate is ME! You have to be proactive, learn all there is to know about what you take. Make sure that ALL your health care professionals are on the same page. Always ask questions and don't be afraid to NO when not sure.

Most of the guys on this forum have been through the gauntlet with drugs and can be of some help. In the end it's what works best for you. If this does not work get them to try something else - but be informed Good luck.

If they work, use 'em. Like first aid. Don't think it's a cop-out. It's a help, like getting relieved off stag.

Proplanol is Inderal (other names too), a wide spectrum beta-blocker used for blood pressure control. They should not be used PRN, that is as you need them. They should be put on a regular schedule, just like taking a vitamin pill a day. I have taken it for years before I switched to a narrower focused blocker that did not. It is a good drug and safe for most people (read the contra-indications in Google).

There are some experiments being done on PTSD patients. My opinion: this is not a drug to experiment with. When you go off the drug for any length of time, it will flip you a sinus wave, that is your heart will palpitate to an irregular rhythm. Everyone has palpitations but going off Inderal causes those episodes to be longer. Excess dosage can cause impotence -- rare. And causes a form of asthma. It's given to patients after they have heart attacks to assist flood flow. I doubt seriously it would help with PTSD but what they hay? They are emptying the closet these days with PTSD. .

I am not a doctor, just AF combat rescue who has taken just about every drug personally. Good luck with it. I hope it helps.
