Looks like I will be interviewing next week. Thus begins my rollercoaster ride. I know I need to go but I start to get aroused in city settings and hi rise buildings, concrete. My therapist said it is common for me to feel this, but he doesnt need to find a job.
The last time I was out for 2 years and probably blew 60 interviews by walking out overwhelmed or running. Too many corners freak me as well as lack of exits.
I need ideas to get through this time that I can use real time.
Thanks in advance,
Dave

My biggest help would be to go to the places PRIOR to interview day at least once or more if time permits. Get "desensitived" so to speak. But don't let your interview day be the 1st time you have been there.

I know it helps me with my agoraphobia. The first time I go someplace it is usually a disaster but the next time is a little better and so on.

I hope this works for you. Heres wishing you well

I agree with Herc... go BEFORE the day of the interview. It sucks, you'll be nervous as hell, you may hate the fact that you have to go out more than just that once, but at least if you're going to get anxious, it's better to do that on a day when you don't have the interviews. Also make sure to give yourself plenty of time, so that you're not stressed about being late or anything like that, as that stress will just make things worse. If you're able to get there early enough on the day of the interview, you will also have more time to survey the surroundings, etc. What helps me is to sit in the car, or outside, around the corner, in the bathroom, where ever you can find that you are comfortable, and do some quick deep breathing exercises to help relax me.

Thank you both for that, I never thought about doing that. People joke and tell me I am allergic to concrete.
Too many things to keep an eye on in cities.

Dave,

You have been on my mind for a couple of days. How did the trail runs go? Even more important how did the interviews go???????

Actually Dave, you make the choices what you keep an eye upon within a city.

I agree with above, you need to actually desensitise yourself to the environment. Exposure therapy is the name for it... the more you do it, the more you become accustomed to it, thus no more anxiety due to it.
