Hi Stacey,
Welcome to the forum. I am so very sorry for all you have gone thru. It is horrible.

As you've already seen there are many here who understand what you are going thru. Some have similar circumstances, other's are different, but the symptoms and how to cope with them are the same. Take your time. If you haven't already take a look at the articles. There is a lot of information that you will find helpful. Post as you feel able. You will receive lots of support form others here.

Hi Stacey,

I'm a little behind the ball with a welcome, but welcome. :) My domestic abuse started around 20 years ago, was over some years later. In all that time I never heard it put so well, "surviving was the easy part". So good! I'm guessing if this scumbucket stabbed you, there was also an awful lot of previous abuse? That alone would be more than enough for one's brain to knock itself into a PTSD diagnosis, with the stabbing as some sort of gory icing on the dam cake for you. I'm so sorry. Gosh, it's an awfully good place to come to, here in the forum. Welcome, and I hope it is helpful in making your healing path at least somewhat more smooth.

It's good to read he is away for another 13 years. There are an awful lot of domestic abuse stories here where the scumbucket is allowed much lee-way by the system. Gosh it's satisfying to read this one. I do realize you have much, much healing to get through, but having him taken care of in this way. Validation (vindication?) is at least a start, although perhaps doesn't quite feel that way at the moment.

I'm fuzzy this morning, so will shush since the train of thought just left my head. :) All the best to you, and do take care,

Anni

I'm so happy to hear that through the court case and because of your strength this scumbag is now in prison.

I would imagine that all through this process you have been in 'survival' mode; fighting to live, then fighting to protect you and your children, by getting him sent to prison. Now that you can begin to relax a little and take stock, you will be feeling the 'fallout'. But with lots of work and determnation, with the help of your therapist, you can get through this part too.

Read and learn all you can about PTSD, both here and across the www. You clearly are a strong woman, don't let PTSD beat you down. Keep fighting!

Hi Stacy,

Wanted to add my welcome as well. As you see, there is a ton of support and understanding here. It is a great place to heal and be accepted and supported as you work to put your life back together. Oh boy and do I agree....that is the hard part. I don't see you giving up, you have already shown a huge amount of strength and courage and persistance. Take care of yourself and your children, you all deserve TLC! (((HUGS))) PH

Having him put away was mostly a safety issue. My abuse started about twenty years ago. Icing on the cake, grand finale, both fit. I was only with him eight months. My kids are doing much better than me. My son is very protective over me. He is 14. My daughter, 16, is beautiful, strong and both of my kids fear nothing or nobody. They have extreme coping skills and strength beyond my own. I'm very proud of both of them. I raised them by myself for the past ten years. Their father was abusive also and has done nothing to help us because I divorced him. I so appreciate all of your warm input. It soothes me to know there are others who understand, not that I would wish this on anybody. Thank you

Hi Stacey,

So sorry to hear about your horrible ordeal, and welcome to the forum. I also went through some horrible ordeals with my ex, one of which was he tried to strangle me with our two year old daughter in the next room. I relate to what you were saying that you felt like you had lost your mind. For a while I felt like I was completely crazy - all the time we were together I somehow managed to keep it together, but a couple of months after we separated the full effects of PTSD took a hold on me. Speaking from only my experience overcoming domestic violence can feel like taking one step forward and two steps back sometimes, but you are not alone and there is strength, hope and recovery somewhere at the end of that dark tunnel you feel like you are in right now.

Wishing you all the best and please persevere beacuse things do eventually get easier and it does get a little easier to function.

Big Hugs, h2o

Hi Stacey. Welcome. I'm sorry to hear what he did to you, and am glad you survived. I'm in a very similar situation right now with an ex in Oregon - police aren't doing anything about it though.

So many women in your postition have raised children like yours. I've met a few here in the forum and think it speaks volumes for your ability to have shown them your own strength through the chaos. Perhaps it didn't feel that way, but they did not get there by themselves-all they had was you. My abuse started 20 years ago also-somehow the children have come out through the years as bright, happy acheivers. Baffling, but I'll take it. We got shredded, however so here we are.

I hope you find some peace here while figuring out this whole PTSD thing, and working out your path to healing. Be kind to yourself-the bad stuff is over, even if your head spends a lot of time telling you otherwise.

Dear Stacey,

I'm so glad you're here, alive and in therapy!

I haven't been stabbed, but met an absolutely wonderful woman who was. She is in therapy, and is doing amazing things now with her life... she still is healing, but is having fun traveling with friends, has a wacky and wonderful sense of humor, is re-making who she is. She is a model of hope and courage. From your post, you are too!

With therapy, freedom from your x, and caring people and support you can transform the horror and create a new life.
I'm glad you're here, and I look forward to your posts.
My heart is with you...

Hi and welcome;

Ptsd has nothing to do with weakness. Never, ever let that thought enter your mind. In fact, it has to do with being strong.
