It seems that the word is getting around and more and more people are finding our site.
This can only have a positive outcome as we will be helping more an more of our brothers and sisters.

Introductions

An important part to this forum is a little understanding of who we are talking to. Mainly because we get veterans from all different conflicts ranging from Vietnam to the present day operations.
So when new members join, it can help as there may be someone from there era on there.

If you happen to come across a post from a spouse, or a non-veteran, give them the benefit of the doubt as they might be nearly blind, and guide them to the sister site which is listed down at the bottom of the page. If they still persist, find their post and select the report function. This will go to Anthony and he will ban them.

Now down to the guts of this post...............

Creating

When creating threads, think carefully about which area to place it under, i.e. anger, relationships, etc, etc, and also remember if you want something kept from 'Google', put it in the 'Members Only' section, however, all anyone has to do is sign up to read it.

Editing

Once you have created a thread or placed a post to a thread there is a small window of time where you have the opportunity to edit it. I am not exactly sure how long that is. After this period, the post is permanent.

Quoting/Replying

We as veterans have minds and thoughts that go all over the place at times and this reflects when it comes to posts. For example, you can have a post started in April 2010 which may contain about four different subjects, then a few comments, then nothing for a month. Then there may be a few more comments. Someone new joins the forum and adds to the thread and it looks ridiculous, even though what the new member is saying is correct. So this is how you do it.

If you press 'Reply', you get everything that has been said and no individual part which may be pertinent.

You can press 'Reply' then delete everything around the ']' and '[' that you don't need.

Or you can write something first then quote a part.

Then you can say something about it. And even add more.

Hope you get the idea.

And once you get used to it, you can use parts from all different people as long as it's on the one thread.

The last point I will mention is inserting links to other threads. This is simple for anyone with a little bit of computer experience.

All you do is find the thread you want, copy the link which is in your browser window, then either open the thread you want to post it in, or create a new one, then paste it.

If you have any other queries, please PM me.

Ok I'll bite. I served with C Trp 1/1 Cav. 11D. Americal Div @ Chu Lai I Corps 1970. I only lasted 6 months when Rex ran over that mine and I got my Early Out :-) There's a lot more but my fingers are getting tired. Anyway I've had pretty bad PTSD ever since.I've had 2 ex wives and 3 kids who won't have a thing to do with me. 9 DWI's More AA meeting than I could count. Countless bar fights. bla bla bla.
I can't be around people. I have to hot of temper. I ran into a Doctor @ Seattle VA who stood behind me when no one else would. I haven't drank now in 10 years. But I don't go to them damn AA meetings either. Its just me and the dog now. I've been divorced and living alone now for the past 30 years.
I found this site and hope to find others I can relate to. I give up on councelors and pills. None of it works. Here in Washington pot has just been legalized. If this isn't a bunch of BS I'll try this down the road. Anyway there it is.

Hiwayman

I am new here and was recommended by a friend from group therapy. Who am I? I struggle with that since I was medically discharged in October. I was put out after 18 years with no retirement and a disability payment for the Army for 5 years. I have been unemployeed since then as well. It's been frsutrating and depressing. I go to group therapy for PTSD and I am the youngest in my group. Everyone else is a vietnam vet. I understand the feeling of not being worth something and having apurpose. I have been trying to do activities to keep busy. I belong to the VFW, I have started writing, do civil war reactments, and do horse back riding for recreational therapy. Thats is my story to date and I hope to meet new friends and learn from others here. It's nice to be where there are other people that dont judge and can relate to what you are going through. I think part of the reason for the divorce of my first marriage was due to PTSD
