Intrusive Thoughts That Cause Physical Reactions

Sometimes I get an intrusive thought. If its a short one (a short memory), or like an external sound that reminds me of something suddenly (and for about 2 seconds) my eyes will roll to the back of my head, and I might cringe a little, or twitch and then the memory goes away. (I must look like a nutcase) :\

Anybody else this happen too?

My physical reaction when having an intrusive thought is that I can get so caught up in that memory for up to ten minutes. Staring straight ahead, not blinking, breathing slows down and totally unaware of anything that is going on around me. Caught up so much in the thought that in my minds eye I see everything that was done and every word that was said. This happens at least twice a day. And that's a good day.

I cringe too and sometimes depending on how intense the memory or attack is, I'll will yell really loud at it... It's always interesting when the attacks (memories) come when i'm in a public place, I wake up and realize where i am and will pretend that i was singing or something, it happens often enough, i seem to be getting good at it...

and then the guilt comes.

Oh yeah. The best is when I go back to a memory and start speaking aloud what I said or thought I should have said in a conversation. Fortunately not many are around to catch this but occasionally someone does. If asked I usually just say "Oh, it's nothing. Just talking to myself" and move on.

I was always ashamed of them and hid them so no one would think anything was wrong with me. I always thought they felt like licking a light socket.....i would squeeze my eyes shut, shudder, and take a deep cleansing breath to return to reality.

Just before I fall asleep, I find myself moaning and uncontrollably jolting my legs. I almost feel out of body and try to stop it but cannot. Its like I am possessed! They say trauma is a ghost, so maybe I am???!!!

Yes. I call it the judders! It is like shuddering. If someone asks I say I got a chill down my neck. In the UK when someone does it, the judders... we ask "Who walked over your grave?"

When I get an intrusive thought I stop everything and get that 1000 mile stare. Lost in the memory. Most of the time I cry quietly along with it.

Oh good, I'm not alone. I twitch or make body movements. I agree, I must look like a nutcase if anyone else saw it - like in a shopping centre or something.
