@Richard Caverly, so sorry for derailing your thread.
I am happy you are doing better and that you choose to help other people.

I have been to Ireland and loved it. Must be great to be Irish.

there are some therapists for the military but they are not military themselves. I aim to get qualified...
I truly admire your drive, passion and tenacity to improve a very lacking situation and to help others.. fist to heart.. mad respect.

the governing body for counsellors and therapists in Scotland is called Cosca. I have contacted them to seek the best path for me and they have never heard of anyone leaving the Army and going into this field after service. They understand the situation and what I can potentially bring to it just by being ex Army. I happened across someone on facebook who is doing exactly the same thing but she is going into the research side of it. She is in South Wales but we are hoping to at least consult with each other as researcher and therapist to come up with something beneficial to all PTSD sufferers. We both have the drive, passion, motivation and military discipline so we certainly will not give up. I did my first ever presentation 2 days ago as an assessment and seemingly everything I just listed shines through. Most of my knowledge of PTSD is from this forum but that is what I joined for. I need the basics to work from

welcome to the forum. I am an army brat and much of my served. thank you for your service and desire to help others. That is a truly wonderful thing

@Richie: I got most of my knowledge of PTSD from talking to sufferers and their spouses and from forums (actullay including this one. I asked some questions here awhile ago but someone found out my nick so I decided not to post under this nick again).

So I learned of few tricks how to deal with my husband PTSD, e.g. he has prohlems with crowded places and I learned that letting him choose his place was helpful. When we were invited for a wedding, he went to the place before to look for exits and so on. I asked the bride to place us near an exit with his back to the wall and so on.

I sometimes push him a bit... but now people have been telling me that they think I am a horrible spouse for expecting too much of him.

I do think he is doing better, he says he is doing better but then he always says he is fine. He can do a lot of things he used to be afraid of now like riding public transport.
