Isolate from stupid as a defense

I am from Australia actually. This whole pond thing is quite a new concept to me.

I think that isolating from stupid people as a form of self defense is a strategy. We have to use whatever strategies we have, at the time, to get through. I will you the best.

I agree that we cant chose our families and I agree that this sounds like selective isolation. I know these people are ignorant and sometimes it "might " benefit pointing out the real crux of the matter and educating them, or sharing a voice of reason. However, some of us chose to think rationally, and often those that play so stupid simply do what they do because it works for them. Somebody will listen to this nonsense. Unfortunately, sometimes I have forgotten this and got drawn into conversations that feel like a lot of work.

So when I start hearing this crap and cant immediately leave, I try to pick a stupid statement and just repeat it and stick with it. Like about bitching about the police -"wow, sounds like your in a pickle", or wonder why that cop is such a meanie.

I have a 35 yr old bi-polar daughter with criminal and addictive behavior. Addicts are liars. She is a liar as well. She is on parole and has to be drug tested a few times a week. She started telling me how her test came pack positive 3 times-all some kind of error of course because she swears she used nothing. (my history with her jerks me back to reality after a few minutes if not immediately.) Someone is out to get her of course or their test is faulty.

I want to confront her but it would do no good after all these years. She started telling me that she suchs on her boyfriends chest and he has aftershave and maybe there is alcohol in it. UMMM.
She is not stupid-she does the victim thing well. I said-well maybe your body produces alcohol on its own. She looked at me like I was nuts. She kept on, I said-maybe you need to drink more water. Myabe from licking a postage stamp, or tight shoes. Maybe it was a dirty cup. Maybe you have a uti, you should go to the doctor and ask him why the test is wrong. She says if she has one more dirty test she will be sent to rehab- I say, well enjoy it, its not like you have to worry about a job or kids and you have meetings right on site and a free gym and good meals. She hasnt told me about this unfair situation for awhile.



I am less exhausted from hearing and my blood pressure stays down when I think of the dumbest response I can think of. May sound mean, but its self preservation.

I think you are doing well by removing yourself from the situation. Who wants to hear this nonsense. Make a mistake-own it and move on. We all have consequences of our errors.
