Greetings,
I just received a rejection letter from a nearby library for a part-time position, about 25 hours., no benefits, etc. I would suspect that no less than eighty applications were received in total given trends, whereas the deadline for application was this past Friday @ 5:00 pm. The thing is that I took delivery of the rejection letter so very rapidly - on Monday afternoon in point of fact. I don't know - it seems so personal if no time is allowed even to sustain the illusion that a reasoned review had been made of what I had submitted.
Others were doubtlessly victims of what I judge to be a lack of grace and tact, whereas envisioning sport being made of 'processing all the rejections' on a whirlwind Saturday afternoon (even if this wasn't strictly the case) just fills me with the blackest contempt. Some aspects of me want to write back, underlining just how tacky the 'process' was when viewed from the outside. I can't imagine doing that to anyone - especially in this job market, rather delay a week and at least lend the process the outside appearance of a reasoned an impartial process consistent with maintaining everyone's dignity if nothing else. Thanks for reading this...
