Hi,

Found this group purely by accident.

I'm married to a PTSD veteran 13 years. He had PTSD when we met. The last couple years though were particularly tough and he needed treatment again. Took me two and a half years after I contacted combat stress in tears to get him help. Ie to get him to accept and acknowledge help.

We've had nine months of weekly cognitive therapy and are both in a much stronger place now. He's back working and the frequency of difficult times is decreasing.

We've both suffered a more than fair share of prejudice and have certainly found out who our true friends are.

I'm looking forward to seeing what's being discussed here. Haven't had a chance to look around yet.

Welcome :D

Lol... Yeah. The cyclic nature of PTSD has bit me now a couple times. Hafta say, flat out love hearing from people who've been in for the long haul & still going strong. Gives me a lot of hope, since I'm one of the ones starting over from square one.

Thanks. I've actually grown to love him more. Strangely perhaps he's been horrible at times. The key for me was getting included in his therapy. It helped us both. Working together to make things better now and stopped fighting. For me understanding was key. He tells me feeling a burden to me was his biggest obstacle. Sorting these issues in therapy really helped. We've had some crap times though over the years.

I'm proud that he fought for his country. I'm proud too that he's achieved so much with his PTSD.

Hi there! Love to hear from supporters who have been there for the long haul. Gives those of us relatively early in relationships hope that it can be done!

I second that! :-D.

I'm glad you found this forum. It is a safe place to both find and give support to other supporters and sufferers. It has certainly helped me greatly - I have learnt so much and I feel that there is a strong cameraderie between our members. Welcome. Sounds like your guy is going great guns with his recovery. My best wishes to you both.

Thanks both.

Yes hubby is doing better, I've been with him 17 years now and over the years there have been lots of changes.

For the most part though when I met him he told me he was cured. In 1990 when he was diagnosed and treated they thought there was a cure......

So we naievely went through our lives not appreciating that actually he wasn't cured. That in som respects caused greater problems as we weren't able to plan and factor it in to our lives like we do now.

I spent considerable time just thinking he was exceptionally selfish and being pretty damn unhappy and hurt, belittled. Everything became my fault. Could work out what was wrong. I guess everyone feels like that initially, right.
