I want to, I want to be someone else or I'll explode
Floating upon the surface for
The birds, the birds, the birds

You want me, f***ing well come and find me
I'll be waiting with a gun and a pack of sandwiches
And nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing

You want me, well come on and break the door down
You want me, f***ing come on and break the door down
I'm ready
I'm ready
I'm ready
I'm ready
I'm ready

-Radiohead, Talk Show Host

Great topic!

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real

The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end

You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of shit
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair

Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here

What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end

You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

"Hurt"-NIN

This next one was slightly adapted by me when I was 15, it fit so closely what I was feeling while being abused, and was an outlet for my feelings at the time. Here is how I altered it for my needs.
I still fall back on it when the feelings get to be too much.

My life suffocates
Planting seeds of hate
my love, turned to hate
Trapped far beyond my fate

I give,You take
This life that I forsake
Been cheated of my youth
You turned this lie to truth

Pure black, you looked clear
your work is done here
Try getting back at me
Getting back which used to be

Push in,Tear out
Let the beatings begin
Distributor of pain
Your loss becomes my gain

"Harvester of Sorrow"-Metallica

This last one has become my lifeline in the last few days, not only do I identify with the lyrics, But the song is just SO great.

Just because I'm losing
Doesn't mean I'm lost
Doesn't mean I'll stop
Doesn't mean I will cross

Just because I'm hurting
Doesn't mean I'm hurt
Doesn't mean I didn't get what I deserve
No better and no worse

I just got lost
Every river that I've tried to cross
And every door I ever tried was locked
Ooh-Oh, And I'm just waiting till the shine wears off...

You might be a big fish
In a little pond
Doesn't mean you've won
'Cause along may come
A bigger one

And you'll be lost
Every river that you tried to cross
Every gun you ever held went off
Ooh-Oh, And I'm just waiting till the firing starts
Ooh-Oh, And I'm just waiting till the shine wears off

Just because I'm losing, doesn't mean I'm lost

"Lost"-Coldplay

Thrasher by Neil Young

They were hiding behind hay bales
They were planting in the full moon
They had given all they had
For something new
But the light of day was on them
They could see the Thrasher coming
And the water shone like diamonds
In the dew

I was just getting up, hit the road before it's light
Tryin' to catch an hour on the sun
When I saw those thrashers rollin' by
Lookin' more that two lanes wide
I was feelin' like my day had just begun

Where the eagle glides ascending
There's a ancient river bending
Through the timeless gorge of changes
Where sleeplessness awaits
I searched out my companions
Who were lost in crystal canyons
When the aimless blade of science
Slashed the Pearly Gates

It was then that I knew I'd had enough
Burned my credit card for fuel
Headed out to where the pavement turns to sand
With a one-way ticket to the land of Truth
And my suitcase in my hand
How I lost my friends, I still don't understand

They had the best selection
They were poisoned with protection
There was nothing that they needed
Nothing left to find
They were lost in rock formations
Or became park-bench mutations
On the side-walks and in the stations
They were waiting... waiting...

So I got bored and left them there
They were just dead weight to me
Better down the road, without that load
Brings back the time when I was 8 or 9
I was watchin' my Momma's TV
It was that great Grand Canyon Rescue episode

Where the vulture glides descending
On an asphalt highway bending
Through libraries and museums
Galaxies and stars
Down the windy halls of friendship
To the rose clipped by the bull-whip
The motel of lost companions
Waits with heated pool and bar

But me I'm not stoppin' there
Got my own row left to hoe
Just another line in the fields of time
When the Trasher comes, I'll be stuck in the sun
Like the dinosaurs in shrines
But I'll know the time has come
To give what's mine

I liked Luthien's Johnny Cash lyrics

I dont know about stirring but these two songs at the moment get me through... I havent really been in this mode for a long time...

This first song...takes me outside of myself so its good for me

When you dream by Barenaked Ladies

With life just begun, my
sleeping new son
has eyes that roll back in his head
They flutter and dart, he
slows down his heart
and pictures a world past his bed
It's hard to believe
As I watch you breathe
Your mind drifts and weaves

When you dream,
what do you dream about?
When you dream,
what do you dream about?

Do you dream about
music or mathematics
or planets too far for the eye?
Do you dream about
Jesus or quantum mechanics
or angels who sing lullabies?

His fontanelle pulses with
lives that he's lived
With memories he'll learn to ignore
And when it is closed, he already knows
he's forgotten all he knew before
But when sleep sets in
history begins
But the future will win

When you dream,
what do you dream about?
When you dream,
what do you dream about?

Are they colour or black and white,
Yiddish or English
or languages not yet conceived?
Are they silent or boisterous?
Do you hear noises just
loud enough to be perceived?
Do you hear Del Shannon's
"Runaway" playing
on transistor radio waves?
With so little experience,
your mind not yet cognizant
Are you wise beyond your few days?

When you dream,
what do you dream about?
When you dream,
what do you dream about?

And this song I try to sing it to myself:

Fix You by Coldplay

When you try your best but you dont succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you cant sleep
Stuck in reverse

And the tears come streaming down your face
When you loose something you cant replace
When you love someone but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

High up above
Or down Below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what your worth

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try
to fix you

Tears stream down your face
When you loose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face
And I

Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face
And I

Lights will guide you home and ignite your bones and I will try to fix you

(I was going to start writing here why...but that would only lead to rambling and)

I want to thank you for this thread A-RON

I have had so much trouble listening to music and now I have the words to "when you dream "in my head...
Thankyou

This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality.
Embrace this moment, remember, we are eternal.
All this pain is an illusion.

"Parabola"-Tool

This song is full of awesome, but this is just my favourite lyric from it.

Yes, thank you Aaron, excellent idea. Loved all these lyrics. I forgot completely about Nine Inch Nails (and Johnny's covers album), and just realized I own absolutely no Cold Play, though I love everything they do. Guess what my mission is tomorrow? Hope I can find it used.

Thank you Luthien, I don't think I've ever heard that tune before (not that I remember by name). I love those last two lines. Something we all need to feel.

Cragger,

Glad you liked my pics. The new Coldplay album is their best one yet IMO.
I thought a lot of their earlier songs all sounded exactly the same. The sound is completely different on this one as they admitted that they gave up all their old tricks and went looking for new ones. There are songs on there I find reminiscent of Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, and other well known greats. Viva la Vida is slotted to win best cd of the 2008, and I think they actually deserve it.

I think "Hurt" could be the theme song for PTSD...I have always loved the NIN version of it for it's raw unapologetic emotion, but Cash's cover was good also.

Finally, Parabola is such a great song, and I think the vid that goes with it is pure art..I think it my fav vid ever. All Tool's vids are out-of-this-world, though. They have it on youtube...look for the 10 min version. If you do check it out keep in mind Tool is one of those bands that you either love, or hate, there doesn't seem to be an in between..At least no-one I have ever met had a mixed opinion.

I sooo forgot about this song....I used to put this on and just feel like everything was maybe going to be alright even if I really couldnt believe it

and maybe its a little corny to post it..but hey.......maybe Im just corn

I'm broke but I'm happy
I'm poor but I'm kind
I'm short but I'm healthy, yeah
I'm high but I'm grounded
I'm sane but I'm overwhelmed
I'm lost but I'm hopeful baby

And What it all comes down to
Is that everything's gonna be fine fine fine
Cos I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving a high five

I feel drunk but I'm sober
I'm young and I'm underpaid
I'm tired but I'm working, yeah
I care but I'm restless
I'm here but I'm really gone
I'm wrong and I'm sorry baby

What it all comes down to
Is that everything's gonna be quite alright
I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is flicking a cigarette

And What it all comes down to
Is that I haven't got it all figured out just yet
Cos I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving the peace sign

I'm free but I'm focused
I'm green but I'm wise
I'm hard but I'm friendly baby
I'm sad but I'm laughing
I'm brave but I'm chicken shit
I'm sick but I'm pretty baby

And what it all boils down to
Is that no one's really got it all figured out just yet
But I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is playing the piano

What it all comes down to my friends
Is that everything's just fine fine fine
I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is hailing a taxicab...

Alanis Morissette Hand In My Pocket
from the album: Jagged Little Pill

I don't care what anyone says. 90s Alanis Morissette was, and still is AWESOME.
Not corny in my book, unless I am corny too??

That's one thing I've never called myself...lol.
