So, some translations...

Maybe I should add I am a translator by profession, so you may not find any of this too funny but all this "tickles my brain" ;) When I studied translation, my prof said that owing to machines not being able to tell which terms are the correct ones with regard to context (because, as he claimed, you need emotional intelligence to do so), we (translators) will not be replaced by them anytime soon. Here's living proof as to why!

You said you were a "supporter". Translated to "Anhänger" in German, which really means "fan" and can not be used as "supporter" of the "sufferer and supporter kind" ("Anhänger" also means "trailer" and "pendant", so one could argue you're being a trailer parked on the forum... :D ).

You wrote: "It is a nut similar to a chestnut, named because the Native American Indians felt the nut looked like the eye of the male deer here, called a buck."

German (for the Germans on here): "Es ist eine Mutter (LOL), die ähnlich ist zu einer Kastanie, hat genannt, weil der amerikanische Ureinwohner, den Indianer haben gefühlt die Mutter wie das Auge vom männlichen Hirsch hier ausgesehen hat, einen Bock gerufen hat."

And back into English (ROFL): "It is a mother that is similar to a chestnut, has called, because the Native American, the Indian have felt the mother like the eye of the male deer here looked like, called out for a buck to come." :hilarious:

Nut can be the nut you meant or the one in "nut and bolt".The former is "Nuss" in German, latter is "Mutter" and "Mutter" is also "mother" in English!

Serpent Mound was translated as "Schlangenhügelstelle". The "stelle" in it sounds as if it were an authority, like the tax authorities or something! So, that would be the "Office for Snake Hills", literally translated back into English! :D

You wrote: "My hope is that you find Peace this holiday season no matter if 'sufferer' or 'supporter'."

German: "Meine Hoffnung ist, dass Sie Frieden diesen Feiertag finden, würzt keine Materie wenn 'Betroffene' oder 'Anhänger'."

Back into English: "My hope is that you will find Peace this public holiday, not seasoning (as in: adding spices and herbs) any matter (physics and astronomy: grey matter, mass, etc.)" if 'sufferer" or "fan'."

Hope you've enjoyed reading (and hopefully laughing!) :roflmao:

Got myself confused there! What I meant is that in German, "Mutter" is "mother" but also "nut" as in "nut and bolt" in English!

This one is, in fact, accurate :roflmao:

As for the others, That so funny! I thought it might get messed up but had no idea how much! Your translations gave me a good laugh. Misinterpretations like that are how fights and wars start! :(

As for that initial letter written months ago, I thought I said then what it was. I actually purchased it almost a year ago, along with other things, with the intention of using them as international gifts. I sent a similar one for the daughter of a former member in Australia, for example. I like to find things I think will be unique and yet have a local connection.

Hmmmm, LOL, I do recall seeing something mentioned about posting anonymously in the regular threads but never did look at how to do it. I'll halve to look into that for a response there. Maybe I can drag this out until NEXT Christmas! :roflmao:

Unfortunately! When I watch the news and listen to the English that is spoken in the background and the German interpretation - woah! - I get amazed at how peaceful it is on Earth!

And that is also why translators and interpreters have very, very good insurance!!!

I like to find things I think will be unique and yet have a local connection.

That's exactly what I liked your gifts for very much! :)

never did look at how to do it

You just tick the appropriate box ("post anonymously" or something like it right beside the buttons below) et voilà! What I usually do is I will tick the box first (just so as not to forget) and then I enter the text I want to post. Then, if I don't forget, I check again, then hit "post reply".

Kris Cucezuf, I hope to be seeing you around next Christmas! :peeking: I can't imagine forum Christmasses without seeing the word Cucezuf anymore!
