Let The Games Begin - London 2012 Olympics

The gold post boxes are stunning. What a great way to show the town's pride in their Olympians!

Our local athletes are beginning to return home and do interviews, and most of them are already talking about beginning training for the Rio games ASAP. Amazing.

I know all this British excitement, the stamps and the post boxes may seem a bit extreme to most non-Brits but we haven't done this well in an Olympics for 104 years!

What an inspiration!

On the news last night, and I paraphrase this, they said, 'We got all those medals in just a few days but we couldn't move the economy an inch.' Something like that.

Maybe not but it has given our country a much-needed boost!:tup:

That's because the US are so used to winning, for us it's a rarity!!:D

I have family in California so I don't mind the US winning! (Well, not much anyway!!);)

We are getting a gold post box in Leeds, in honor of Nicola Adams winning the first women's boxing gold medal.

It is so amazing. I watched Nicola and then Jade Jones being interviewed on BBC Breakfast this morning. They are both so young and so full of joy and happiness.

Everyone is feeling so good about the games.

I keep seeing China being brought up as using a strict, almost abusive they want to say, training regiment for their kids - children starting at 5 live in a boarding school thing where they breathe eat and sleep whatever sport their chosen for. They keep bringing it up like it's "cheating" or bad and that's how they get all the medals. But um.... the US is right up there with the medals..... maybe someone should investigate that..... there has to be a reason for it neh? Secret training facilities too perhaps?

I know why Canada sucks - our athletes have to work full time and pay for their own crap, training and travel. I know this because home depot runs ads every olympics about their worker/athlete people.

OMG, I have just watched a bit of synchronised swimming. How do they do THAT? They were underwater for so long I thought they would drown. It is probably my least favourite sport but it is very clever.

I have to say the US is leading in medals and I am very proud. These games are amazing. All the athletes are doing their best. All of the hard work is paying off.
