If I'm understanding this right, then, it's not being around people that is the challenge for you but being around people in an unstructured situation. I can certainly relate to that. Playing a violin concerto is a focused activity involving you, the accompanist, orchestra if any, and the audience. If you have to talk, it's within some semi-predicatable guidelines: let's go back to bar 72; put a crescendo there; thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Going out for lunch though, people could want to talk about anything under the sun. I hardly ever do anything social that is open-ended like that, except with a very few people. I'd much rather have a job to do in a social situation than be thrown to the sharks... er, sorry, I mean to say allowed to mill around and socialize. Is it something like that?
