General Long, Extended Periods Of Anxiety

My husband (diagnosed with very severe PTSD) suffers from long, extended periods of intense anxiety that are not relieved much by medication. He will start feeling anxious and it just spirals and spirals. He will be sitting there in tears sometimes, lash out at others, pull himself together for social obligations and then fall apart. He will lie in bed and jerk around and sigh endlessly, trying to get the stress to leave him. But it can take days and days. Sometimes 5 days to recalibrate.

We have looked around online and found nothing about what these long periods are and why they happen.

Anyone else experience the same thing?

Hello Lunada94,

I moved your thread into the supporter section as it was in the wrong forum.

I am sorry this is happening to you. Is he getting any professional help? Maybe he should work on some grounding. I do think the supporters here will be able to help you, they have a unique look in.

Take care.

Actually, until I started taking 20 milligrams of Citalopram I was very much the same. I truly hate taking medication but its better than being curled up in a ball in the dark crying all day.

Yeah, he's not had a good run with SSRIs. He was on Lexapro and they gave him hallucinations and episodes of syncope. I had to call the cops to take him away once because of it or take him to the ER because he passed out and fell down the stairs.

Has he tried other classes of meds? I know that there is a debate about whether or not benzodiazepines should be used for PTSD, but I have a script that I take when my anxiety gets really bad. I HATE those pills because of the side effects, but when my anxiety gets that bad, I don't really have much of a choice anymore.
